  • Patent number: 11679246
Abstract: A neutral pressure split-septum luer access device is described for receiving a luer lock connector. The septum has a plurality of elastomeric columns projecting laterally within a chamber. Each elastomeric column is under sufficient compression so that the columns are bowed and the column strength is reduced by bowing, but the slit sealing force is high. This configuration places the lower portion of the slit in a tightly sealed configuration which is never-the-less receptive to penetration by the male luer which causes the columns to bow further and collapse precipitously with the elastomeric force of the collapsing mass of the columns being carried distally to displace and pop open the central slit distal the tip of the male luer. The septum further provides a transverse separation between the columns and a distal sealing portion so the force of the displacement force to the sealing portion is reduced.

  • Publication number: 20140249487
Abstract: A neutral pressure split-septum luer access device is described for receiving a luer lock connector with a surrounding shroud. The housing has a distal portion with a transversely enlarged chamber defining an internal chamber wall. A septum with a central slit for receiving a male luer into the slit is mounted in the housing. The septum has an upper portion with an outer face, a lower sealing portion in sealing contact with the distal portion of the housing, and a plurality of elastomeric columns projecting laterally within the chamber, each elastomeric columns defines a longitudinal axis and is under sufficient compression along the longitudinal axis induced by the internal wall of the chamber so that the columns are bowed and the strength along each of the elastomeric columns is reduced by bowing, but the slit sealing force is high.

  • Patent number: 8480968
Abstract: A disinfectant swab is disclosed which comprises a pouch sized for protecting a luer valve. The pouch preferably has shape memory for grasping the luer valve after the pouch as been advanced over the luer valve. The pouch includes a disinfectant along at least one of a inner surface and an outer surface. In one example, the shape memory can be providing by at least one elastic portion. In one embodiment the pouch has at least one disinfectant along the outer surfaces so that the outer surface of the swab can be used to prep skin, drug vials and the like. The pouch can be sized to elastically grasp on a plurality of types of luer valves and/or to elastically grasp on a tube having the approximate outer diameter of a luer lock connector or another portion of a luer lock connector. The pouch can be comprised of elastic foam and/or can have a flattened configuration when stored and/or can be stored in a flat tear able sealed package.

  • Patent number: 8361408
Abstract: A medical swab pouch is disclosed. The inexpensive elastic pouch contains disinfectant and is configured for protecting and swabbing a wide variety of luer systems to prevent and eliminate bacterial contamination. The pouch has a flattened configuration and can be elastically dilated, as by squeezing the pouch between the thumb and index finger and is readily carried in large numbers in nurse's pockets (in a manner similar to that for conventional alcohol swabs). The pouch covers and protects the luer valve at the discretion of the user and without transmission of torsion or longitudinal force which might loosen the luer valve or otherwise be transmitted to the vein.

  • Publication number: 20120165623
Abstract: A vitals monitor [10] includes an elongated probe [20] having a distal tip [28], the monitor having a distal sensor surface [24] adjacent the distal tip for sensing oral temperature of a patient and at least one proximal gas receiver [30] positioned along the probe [20] so that, when the distal tip [28] is placed under a patients tongue, exhaled gas from the nose strikes the gas receiver [30] for detecting and/or measuring at least one signal indicative of at least one ventilation parameter.

  • Patent number: 7654996
Abstract: A catheter-flushing extension tube for maintaining the patency and sterility of the lumen of an indwelling catheter. The system is comprised of an extension tube in fluid connection with an indwelling catheter; the extension tube defines an internal volume and at least one sealed proximal terminal for intermittent connection with an external fluid source. The extension tube is configured such that the internal volume of the tube can be progressively reduced at a plurality of different times so that the extension tube itself provides the source of catheter flush solution for intermittently flushing the catheter.

  • Publication number: 20080039803
Abstract: A universal medical Luer Protecting Pouchâ„¢ is disclosed. The inexpensive elastic pouch contains disinfectant and is configured to terminate the present epidemic in hospitals by providing a very inexpensive and easily implemented universal device for protecting and swabbing a wide variety of luer systems from bacterial contamination. The pouch has a flattened configuration and can be elastically dilated, as by squeezing the pouch between the thumb and index finger, to allow for simplified cover of both luer valves and male luers with a single device, which is readily carried in large numbers in nurse's pockets (in a manner similar to that for conventional alcohol swabs). The same pouch covers either the face of the luer valve or distal end of the male luer at the discretion of the user and without transmission of torsion or longitudinal force which might loosen the luer valve or otherwise be transmitted to the vein.
