  • Publication number: 20080020467
Abstract: A method for metering samples located in a metering zone of a diagnostic analyzer includes: providing samples located within the metering zone on the analyzer; providing a metering system having a robotic arm which is extendable from a linearly translatable pivot. The arm accesses multiple sample points in the metering zone. The robotic arm is moved to position a metering probe located on the end of the arm distal from the pivot point over the sample. The probe moves vertically relative to the sample in the direction of the sample and aspirates the sample. A metering system for a diagnostic analyzer includes: a truck mounted on a guide rail, said truck linearly movable along the guide rail; a robotic arm pivotably attached and extending away from the truck, the robotic arm being rotatable in a plane that is horizontal and parallel to the line of linear motion of the truck; a metering head having a probe thereon for aspirating and dispensing a liquid, the metering head is attached to the robotic arm.

  • Publication number: 20050267920
Abstract: A data archiving system according to the invention can be deployed in a clustered network environment to perform archiving, backup, and restoring of data for clustered applications supported by the network. The archiving system generally includes an archiving server application resident at a first node, a virtual client application resident at the first node, and archiving client applications resident at other nodes within the network. The archiving server application, using the virtual client application, determines the physical location of a clustered application prior to (and, in one practical embodiment, during) the actual backup procedure. The physical location of the clustered application is processed to access a set of backup configuration files stored by the virtual client application. The backup configuration files contain information related to the manner in which the clustered application should be archived and/or restored.

  • Patent number: 5724197
Abstract: An optical actuator for positioning a lens to focus a laser light beam on a surface of a compact disk, and to compensate for tilt errors in the surface of the compact disk, including a lens mount for supporting the lens; a base; at least two pairs of spaced-apart flexures, each pair of flexures being fixed to the lens mount and to a base, the flexures of one pair being arranged so that they are non-parallel when viewed from the side and the distance between flexures at the base is less than the distance at the position where they are mounted to the lens mount and the other pair of flexures being arranged so that they are non-parallel when viewed from the side and the distance between flexures at the base is greater than the distance at the position where they are mounted to the lens mount; and applying a force to the lens mount along a line and between the flexures so that when viewed from the parallel flexure side the line bisects each flexure to cause the flexures to deflect such that as the lens moves in a

  • Patent number: 5659433
Abstract: An optical actuator is disclosed for positioning a lens to focus a laser light on a surface of a member, such as an optical disk, with minimum lens tilt error. The optical actuator includes a lens mount for supporting the lens, a plurality of flexures fixed to the lens mount, and a based spaced from the lens mount. The optical actuator further includes a motor structure for operating the actuator in energized and de-energized states. In the energized state, a force is applied to the lens mount to cause the lens mount to move in a focus direction. In the de-energized state, the flexures relax, causing the lens mount to move substantially in the focus direction. The optical actuator further includes an actuator travel stop disposed relative to the base and the lens mount for supporting the lens mount in a downward direction when the actuator is in the de-energized state, to thereby prevent the flexures from creeping in such a way so as to result in lens tilt.
