    Abstract: A machine for propelling a ball comprising an elongated barrel having an axially compressible coil spring therein that is controlled by an axially reciprocable screw disposed coaxially with and internally of said spring. A nut is threadably engaged on the screw whereby said screw is axially advanced and retracted. A coupling on the end of the screw first engages then releases said spring.
