Patent number: 11714163Abstract: A method of collision localization on a robotic device includes obtaining audio signals from a plurality of acoustic sensors spaced apart along the robotic device; identifying, based on a collision being detected, a strongest audio signal; identifying a primary onset time for an acoustic sensor producing the strongest audio signal, the primary onset time being a time at which waves propagating from the collision reach the acoustic sensor producing the strongest audio signal; generating a virtual onset time set, by shifting a calibration manifold, based on the identified primary onset time, the calibration manifold representing relative onset times from evenly spaced marker locations on the robotic device to the plurality of acoustic sensors; determining scores for the marker locations based a standard deviation of elements in the virtual onset time set; and estimating a location of the collision based on a highest score of the determined scores.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2020Date of Patent: August 1, 2023Assignee: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD.Inventors: Xiaoran Fan, Yuan Chen, Dae Won Lee, Colin Prepscius, Ibrahim Volkan Isler, Lawrence David Jackel, Hyunjune Sebastian Seung, Daniel Dongyuel Lee

Patent number: 8204203Abstract: A method of managing communications received by a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) terminating at a residence associated with a subscriber is disclosed. The DSL is divided into one baseband line, one or more derived lines and a data connection. A query is received from a Service Control Point (SCP) for subscriber preferences for handling an incoming communication. The query is translated into an Internet Protocol (IP) message and communicated to a web server. A Common Gateway Interface (CGI) application module is invoked that corresponds to the particular type of communication being sent to the residence. The subscriber's preferences for handling the particular type of communication are retrieved from a database. Based on the retrieved preferences and invoked CGI application, call handling instructions are sent to the SCP.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2002Date of Patent: June 19, 2012Assignee: AT&T Intellectual Property II, L.P.Inventors: Barry S. Patent number: 7606911Abstract: The present invention is a system and method for providing and displaying information collected from a variety of information providers such as an electronic mail server or an information content server. Each of the variety of information providers provides information updates which are captured and rendered in a variety of status images which are provided to a user via a Web page or similar facility. The display of information on the Web page is robust against displays from one or more of the information providers since each of the status images and the remainder of the Web page content are rendered independently.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2006Date of Patent: October 20, 2009Assignee: AT&T Corp.Inventors: Lawrence David Jackel, Urs A Muller

Patent number: 6684239Abstract: The invention provides a system and method for publishing electronic mail messages on the Internet. A user selects an electronic mail message to be published and moves the selected electronic message to a designated folder. The electronic mail message is then processed to convert the electronic mail message into a format suitable for Internet publication. Once converted electronic mail message content is published on the Internet and accessible from any suitable browser software.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 2000Date of Patent: January 27, 2004Assignee: AT&T Corp.Inventors: Beat Flepp, Lawrence David Jackel, Urs A Muller

Publication number: 20030133015Abstract: An arrangement for capturing and transmitting a series of images, as well as associated sound clips, from a wireless digital camera to a network-based server for viewing at a web site by designated individuals. Text and/or audio messages from the viewers can be transmitted through the wireless packet network back to the digital camera, resulting in an interactive, bidirectional communication system between the camera user and the image viewers.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 17, 2001Publication date: July 17, 2003Inventors: Lawrence David Jackel, Frederick Kenneth Schmidt, Antony Van der Mude

Patent number: 6507356Abstract: A method for improving video conferencing/calling between participants is disclosed. A video conference/call display window is provided to call participants. The position of the video call window is restricted to a portion of a video display screen which is close to the position of a video camera which is used during the video call. In this manner, a video call participant will be perceived to be looking at the video camera during the video call.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 2000Date of Patent: January 14, 2003Assignee: AT&T Corp.Inventors: Lawrence David Jackel, Urs A Muller

Patent number: 6501838Abstract: A call-forwarding system can be remotely controlled in a simple and easily understood manner, thereby increasing the usage of call-forwarding. By maintaining a registry of special telephone numbers for a user's telephone and, upon receiving a telephone call from one of the special telephone numbers, the system forwards calls to the one of the special telephone numbers. The call-forwarding system includes a registry of special telephone numbers and a call-forwarding controller which, upon receiving a call from one of the special telephone numbers, forwards calls to the one of the special telephone numbers. In addition, the call-forwarding controller includes a caller-ID application which identifies all incoming telephone calls and passes this information to the controller. The controller then compares the incoming call to the telephone numbers in the registry and, upon obtaining a match, activates a routine for forwarding future incoming calls to the matched telephone number.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2001Date of Patent: December 31, 2002Assignee: AT&T Corp.Inventors: Ronald J. Brachman, Donnie Henderson, Lawrence David Jackel, Frederick Kenneth Schmidt, Jr.

Patent number: 6185603Abstract: A messaging system uses the standard email subject line to control where a message gets delivered, when a message gets delivered and the appearance of a message when it gets delivered. This enables a company to use its standard intranet email system as a pseudo real-time messaging transport with a range of delivery options. Several codes control the features of the alerting message, and a predefined escape sequence for use by the sender is recognizable by a dedicated server. This escape sequence enables these codes. By placing the escape sequence in a predetermined location in each message, the sender indicates to the system that codes for controlling the features of the alerting message follow the escape sequence. Using these codes, the user can then specify when, how often and in what manner the alert message is displayed to the recipient in a window on the recipient's workstation. In addition, the sender can certain aspects of message routing and delivery using these codes.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 1997Date of Patent: February 6, 2001Assignee: AT&T Corp.Inventors: Donnie Henderson, Lawrence David Jackel

Patent number: 5720003Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the accuracy limit of a learning machine for predicting path performance degradation imposed by the quality of the path performance data is disclosed. A plurality of learning machines of increasing capacity are trained using training data and tested using test data, and the training error rates and test error rates are calculated. The asymptotic error rates of the learning machines are calculated and compared. When the change in asymptotic error rate falls below a certain rate, the asymptotic error rate estimates the accuracy limit for a learning machine for predicting path performance degradation. The accuracy limit is derived from insufficiencies in the path performance data and is applicable to any learning machine trained on and applied to the path performance data, regardless of the complexity of the learning machine or the size of the training data set.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1995Date of Patent: February 17, 1998Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Wan-Ping Chiang, Corinna Cortes, Lawrence David Jackel, William Lee
