  • Patent number: 5299586
Abstract: A dishwasher tub includes a bottom wall having a sump basin formed therein for containing a reservoir of washing fluid. The sump basin has an upper rim having a rear portion spaced inwardly from the rear edge of the bottom wall, opposite side portions spaced inwardly from the opposite side edges of the bottom wall, and a front portion spaced inwardly from the front edge of the bottom wall. The rim of the sump forms two spaced apart leg portions of the basin which extend forwardly into close proximity to the front spaced apart corners of the front wall of the tub. In addition to the sump basin, the bottom wall includes front, rear, and opposite side margins sloping upwardly from the rim of the sump basin to the rear, side, and front walls of the dishwasher tub. The resulting sump basin has a horseshoe-shaped configuration.

  • Patent number: 5251939
Abstract: A water injector system is provided for inter-connecting a water hose to a fill opening in the wall of a dishwasher tub. The injector includes an elongated body having a water ingress opening at the upper end and a water egress opening at the bottom end. A coupler having a plurality of lugs is provided at the lower end of the body and is adapted to cooperate with notches surrounding the fill opening of the dishwasher tub for connecting the injector to the tub and for holding the egress opening in communication with the fill opening of the tub. A ferrule is integrally provided on the upper end of the body for connection to a water hose to provide fluid communication from the hose through the injector into the fill opening of the water tub.

  • Patent number: 5211190
Abstract: A wash arm attachment includes a conduit connector having a threaded end extending through a central opening in the top wall of the dishwasher tub. An upper coupling member is threaded over the threaded end of the connector member and includes a shank portion which extends downwardly into a central opening of a wash arm so that the shank portion is enclosed within an internal spray chamber of the wash arm. A retainer stud has a plurality of cantilevered spring arms which are inserted into a tapered sleeve within the lower end of the upper coupling member so as to retain the two together and so as to permit the rotatable mounting of the spray arm within the dishwasher.

  • Patent number: 5118254
Abstract: A pump mount is provided for a dishwasher having a tub with an opening in the sump defined by a radially inwardly directed annular flange. A pump housing includes a plurality of ramp members spaced around its periphery and a seal is located between the pump housing and the flange for retaining washing fluid in the tub when the pump housing is assembled to the tub. A locking member is engageable with the pump housing ramp members for assembling the pump housing to the tub. In the preferred embodiment a locking member is rotatable relative to the pump for effecting axial movement of the pump housing relative to the tube to compress the seal and form a fluid tight joint.

  • Patent number: 4795102
Abstract: A bidirectional dishwasher pump includes a particle cutter adjacent the ingress to the drain pump cavity. The particle cutter is associated with the pump drive shaft and includes a primary edge portion and a secondary edge portion. Rotation in a first direction effects cutting of particles by the primary edge portion and rotation in a second direction effects relatively reduced particle cutting and radial outward movement of particles by the secondary edge portion.

  • Patent number: 4606464
Abstract: A dishwasher rack having substantially upstanding front, rear and side walls and a generally horizontally disposed bottom wall formed from a plurality of longitudinal and lateral wire members includes at least one pivoted divider. The pivoted dividers are each located between a pair of pivot support members which are secured to adjacent wires of the rack bottom by oppositely facing grooves and a deformable locking member. Each pivot support member includes a spring biasing arm having a cam member engageable with a follower associated with a pivoted divider. The cam member and biasing arm cooperate with the follower of the pivoted divider for controlling the positioning of the pivoted divider in either an upright or folded posture.

  • Patent number: 4416300
Abstract: An article washing apparatus is provided which has a washing chamber and a heating element spaced upwardly from the bottom wall thereof. Apparatus is also provided for distributing washing liquid within the washing chamber including a pump associated with the bottom wall of the washing chamber and a rotatable horizontally elongated thermoplastic wash arm in communication with the pump to effect washing of the articles by spraying liquid thereon. The thermoplastic wash arm is protected from heat radiated by the heating element by at least one generally U-shaped heat reflecting member supported on the rotatable thermoplastic wash arm. The heat reflecting member is positioned between the thermoplastic wash arm and the heating element with a wall portion of the heat reflecting member spaced from the thermoplastic wash arm and providing an air gap therebetween. The wall portion of the heat reflecting member effectively dissipates and reflects radiant heat from the heating element.

  • Patent number: 4192432
Abstract: A dishwashing apparatus which includes a generally perforate silverware basket for holding silverware during washing, rinsing and drying operations. The basket side and end walls include vertical and diagonal intersecting ribs forming a lattice-work of perforations which promotes natural, gravitational drainage of washing fluid from the walls.

  • Patent number: 4157145
Abstract: A dishwashing apparatus which includes a silverware basket for holding silverware during washing, rinsing and drying operations. The basket has generally perforate side and bottom walls. The bottom wall includes first and second pluralities of elongated ribs disposed in two generally parallel but spaced apart planes. The ribs are joined at the projected rib intersections and thus form an offset grid having nonplanar openings which resist bridging by washing fluid.
