Abstract: An alarm device including an alarm switch mounted on the structure of a building that carries walking surfaces such as a floor joist. A switch is actuated upon structural deflection associated with imposition of predetermined amount of weight at the area of the switch as when a person is walking thereon. The deflection of the structure causes relative movement between an electrical contact and an electrically conductive taut wire to energize a circuit which can give an alarm or other indication.
