A lever is rotatably mounted relative to the first connector housing. The lever has lever arms with projections provided at free ends of the lever arms, The second connector has a second connector housing. A lever receiving recess with at least one latching projection is provided in the second connector housing. The at least one latching projection is configured to cooperate with the projections of the first connector housing. The lever is rotatable between a pre-insertion position and an insertion position. The cooperation of the lever with the lever receiving recess prevents the premature mating of the first connector housing to the second connector housing as the lever is moved between the pre-insertion position and the insertion position.

    Abstract: A low insertion force contact terminal which has a conductor mating portion, a securing portion and a substrate mating portion. The conductor mating portion is configured to terminate a conductor therein. The securing portion is configured to secure the terminal in a terminal receiving cavity of a housing. The substrate mating portion extends from the securing portion. The substrate mating portion has at least two sections which have curved portions thereon. At least one embossment is provided on a first section of the at least two sections or a second section of the at least two sections. The curved portions of the at least two sections move independently, which allows the curved portions to exert a low normal force on walls of through holes of a substrate to which the contact terminal is mated. The low normal force is sufficient to provide a stable electrical connection.

A cover is mounted on the housing proximate the contacts and is movable between initial and final positions with respect to the housing. The cover has a cavity therein that is configured to receive and align the cables at the predetermined pitch with respect to one another. The cover includes a series of passages there through that align with the cable engaging ends of the contacts such that, when the cover is moved to the final position, the cable engaging ends of the contacts extend through the passages into the cavity to pierce the corresponding cables and engage corresponding conductors. Optionally, the cover may include a solid top wall without passages therethrough.

    Abstract: An alignment tool (44) is disclosed for aligning the conductors of a ribbon cable (12) to insulation displacement contacts (162, 168, 172) of a connector (16, 18, 14) during termination of the connector to the cable. The tool includes a body (46) having a fluted cable guiding surface (72, 74) and first and second connector receiving cutouts (66, 68) on opposite sides of the guide surface. A retaining plate (112) is hingedly attached to the body (46) and is arranged to releasable hold the ribbon cable (12) in located engagement with the fluted guide surface (72, 74). The retaining plate (112) enables the ribbon cable (12) to move longitudinally to position it for termination of a connector (14, 16, 18) without loosening the retaining plate (112) and without disturbing the alignment of the ribbon cable.
