  • Publication number: 20120290086
Abstract: Arcuate arms each approximately semi-circular extend generally oppositely from a central fixation element. Together the arms and integral fixation element form a capsular tension ring to apply outward pressure along the equator of an ocular lens capsule during surgery. The ring can be loaded into an insertion tube by pulling on the central fixation element such that the arms are drawn into the tube together. Similarly, the arms are expelled together from the tube during insertion into the capsule so as to equalize the force applied to the capsule during insertion of the ring.

  • Publication number: 20050159758
Abstract: An irrigating component provides a flow of irrigation liquid into a lens capsule or chamber during eye surgery while a separate aspiration component withdraws fluid from the capsule or chamber. The irrigating component is designed to permit a flow rate that at least balances the flow rate of the aspiration component.

  • Patent number: 6902558
Abstract: An elongated, rigid cannula has a peripheral wall defining a central bore and a side port for introduction of material into the bore. A covering of resilient, flexible material is provided in the area of the side port, with a corresponding aperture aligned with the port of the cannula. The aperture of the resilient covering can be somewhat smaller than the underlying cannula port, forming a resilient margin that overhangs and surrounds the port.

  • Patent number: 6887221
Abstract: A medical instrument includes a handpiece having irrigation and aspiration channels, a connector coupled to the handpiece by a sliding friction fit and having channels forming continuations of the irrigation and aspiration channels, and a removable tip threadedly coupled to the connector.

  • Patent number: 6234993
Abstract: A passage for irrigation liquid extends lengthwise along the exterior surface of the body of a phacoemulsifier handpiece and is formed between an outer arcuate section and the exterior surface of the body itself. The passage is of noncircular cross section so that it protrudes from the body, but to a lesser degree than a circular conduit having the same cross-sectional area.
