Publication number: 20130282923Abstract: A system and method for managing overlapping address domains are described herein. The method includes receiving, at a global network node management system, communications from a plurality of tenants within a network address translation (NAT) environment, wherein each of the plurality of tenants includes a group of network devices with non-overlapping internet protocol (IP) addresses. The method also includes tracking, via the global network node management system, a state of the NAT environment based on the communications.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 20, 2012Publication date: October 24, 2013Inventors: Joseph Elisha Taylor, Wei Wen Chen, Zhenjun Cao, Max C. Patent number: 8144624Abstract: Presented is a method and system for determining network topology of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) in a Wide Area Network (WAN). The method includes obtaining a list of CE (customer edge) routers in a network, obtaining a list of prefixes advertised by each CE router, iterating, for each prefix, the list of prefixes advertised by all CE routers, verifying, in case a potential hub CE router already exists, whether the second CE router and the potential hub CE router are same, marking, in case a potential hub CE router does not exist, the second CE router as the potential hub CE router, and marking, if there exists a potential hub CE router that advertises every other prefix in the network, the potential hub CE router as hub site and other CE routers as spoke sites.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2009Date of Patent: March 27, 2012Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Srikanth Natarajan, Swamy Jagannadha Mandavilli, Lawrence M. Patent number: 6567852Abstract: A Web user interface session is initialized in such a way as to allow certain contextual environmental information associated with a user, including session properties such as user name, user role, and locale, to be shared between all applications invoked during the web user interface session. Application programming interfaces (APIs) are disclosed that provide access to the environmental information for both common gateway interface (CGI) programs as well as Java applets. The sharing of the environmental information between session applications allows a consistent user interface to be presented to the user during the session.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2001Date of Patent: May 20, 2003Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Lawrence M. System for dynamic customer filtering of management information presented through a web-based portal
Publication number: 20020198973Abstract: In accordance with the principles of the present invention, an information filtering system in a management portal allows dynamic customization of the display of on-line service information for a particular customer of the service to provide substantially relevant information for the customer. In an aspect of the present invention, the on-line service information includes information regarding the network resources provided or managed by a service provider. A management information portal of the management portal includes a module library that contains one or more display modules, which are the generic building blocks each of which provides information dynamically regarding particular aspects of the network resources. The dynamic information filtering system comprises a filter specified in an user configuration database maintained and updated by the service provider, a filter library that provides a variety of filters, where each filter may be applied to information for displayed to the customer.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 30, 2001Publication date: December 26, 2002Inventor: Lawrence M. Publication number: 20020158897Abstract: A system for providing a topology map generation service from a service information portal is improved by utilizing an object-oriented class, a mapview module, configured for generating topology maps. The mapview module may be implemented in an object-oriented language such as Smalltalk, C++, JAVA or the like. The mapview module may be configured to provide member functions that include at least associating an output file stream; adding icon symbols and connections symbols between the icon symbols; generating a background graphic (e.g., a building, a geographic map, etc.,); and generating a topology map (or image) by calling a command on an object; and utilizing hypertext transfer protocol (“HTTP”) to transfer images across a network. In effect, the mapview module hides all the low-level graphic details for generating a topology view/map/image from a user. Thus, the generation of the topology maps may become easier.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 30, 2001Publication date: October 31, 2002Inventors: Lawrence M. Besaw, John C. Adams

Publication number: 20020161903Abstract: A system for secure access to information, e.g., images, data, etc., is utilized to provide additional security to users of a management portal.. The management portal may be configured to embed a common gateway interface (“CGI”) link in a web page, e.g., HTML, extensible mark-up language (“XML”), at the end the conclusion of the management transaction. Subsequently, the web page with the embedded CGI link may be transmitted to the user. To access the stored information, the user may invoke the CGI link on the received web page. The CGI link may be configured to invoke an application, a security module, at a web server of the management portal e.g., CGI script, web application, etc., that may request a user name and/or authorization code from the user. The security module may be further configured to compare the requested information against a user configuration database of the management portal, where the user configuration may be constructed in XML code.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 30, 2001Publication date: October 31, 2002Inventor: Lawrence M. Besaw

Patent number: 6344862Abstract: Contextual information that is presented to the user of a windows-based computer environment through the user interface of a single open window of the environment may be readily filtered and changed by appropriate manipulation by the user of a context control feature of the user interface. Manipulation of the context control feature allows the user to look at a given set of objects or tasks from different views or perspectives. It also provides the user with access to a different set of objects, thereby allowing the user to look at a different set of objects or tasks from the same view or perspective as an earlier set of objects or tasks.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 1998Date of Patent: February 5, 2002Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventors: Evelyn L. Patent number: 6175363Abstract: The user interface of a window in a windows-based computer environment, such as an application window (50) or a launcher window (10), has controls that provide a user with an explicit mechanism for changing the user interface approach taken by the user interface in presenting functionality of network and systems management applications to the user via the user interface. The following types of user interface approaches can be obtained in network and systems management applications: an object-based approach, is a task-based approach, an information-based approach, and a tool-based approach. A change in the user interface approach via an approach control mechanism (14) is typically associated with a corresponding change in the items presented to the user and the way in which functionality will be used.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 1998Date of Patent: January 16, 2001Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventors: Evelyn L. Patent number: 5276789Abstract: A system for automatically laying out and graphically displaying the topology of a computer network system. The layout system retrieves a list of the nodes within the network and their interconnections from a database which can be manually built by a network administrator or automatically constructed by other software. The system will provide any of three views that can be requested by the user. An internet view is the largest and shows the interconnection of different networks. A network view can be shown for any of the networks described in the internet view. A network is comprised of segments and the system will display a view of the nodes connected to any one of the segments. The system will automatically update the view as new nodes become available in the database. This aspect of the system and allows the system to dynamically update the graph when the list of nodes is being supplied by other software.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1990Date of Patent: January 4, 1994Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Co.Inventors: Lawrence M.
