  • Patent number: 6568887
Abstract: A plunge base router for use in an upright and an inverted position is disclosed. The router includes a depth adjustment mechanism, a depth stop mechanism, a post lock mechanism, and a return spring defeat mechanism. The depth adjustment mechanism includes a course adjustment mechanism and a fine adjustment mechanism to set the cutting distance of a bit. The course and fine adjustment mechanisms are usable in both the upright and inverted positions and the fine adjustment mechanism is operable without being reset throughout the full range of motion of the plunge router. The depth stop includes a mechanism for locking the end of a rod on the housing to the base in order to set the relative position in between the housing and the base. The depth stop also includes a plurality of steps for engaging the rod and permitting incremental passes of cutting at different depths with the router.

  • Patent number: 6488455
Abstract: A plunge base router for use in an upright and an inverted position is disclosed. The router includes a depth adjustment mechanism, a depth stop mechanism, a post lock mechanism, and a return spring defeat mechanism. The depth adjustment mechanism includes a coarse adjustment mechanism and a fine adjustment mechanism to set the cutting distance of a bit. • Patent number: 5909987
Abstract: A simple and quick manner for centering a sub-base of a fixed-base router. The sub-base is provided with two sets of peripheral holes and a large central opening. One set of holes is countersunk and receives flat-head screws; the other set of holes is counterbored and receives pan-head screws. The router is sent from the factory with the sub-base attached by the flat-head screws. To center the sub-base the flat-head screws are removed and the pan-head screws are inserted to loosely mount the sub-base. The counterbored openings are oversized to allow lateral movement of the sub-base. A cone element is installed in the collet and engaged with the sub-base through the central opening. The cone element fully abuts the opening to center the sub-base, the pan-head screws are tightened and the cone element is replaced by a router bit.

  • Patent number: 5853274
Abstract: The fixed-base router has an annular base member supporting a cylindrical base member. A cylindrical motor housing is telescopingly received within the cylindrical base member; the motor housing includes three vertically aligned notches. A vertically disposed rod is rotatably mounted by the cylindrical base member. The rod includes an external threaded area in threading engagement with a threaded bore in a lever. The lever includes a latch for engagement with a selected one of the notches for coarse vertical adjustment. Fine vertical adjustment is obtained by rotating the rod with the latch in engagement with one of the notches.

  • Patent number: 5110100
Abstract: A vise comprises two jaws formed so that at least one of the jaws is movable relative to the other of the jaws, a rotary drive pivotally connected with at least the one movable jaw so as to move the one jaw relative to the other jaw, and a one-way slip clutch located between the drive and the movable jaw so that a drive force is positively transmittted to the one jaw so as to positively move the one jaw away of the other jaw, and at the same time during movement of the one jaw toward the other jaw the clutch slips over so as to prevent excessive application of clamping force by the movable jaw on an object to be clamped.

  • Patent number: 5090488
Abstract: A power tool comprises a chuck, a first shaft driving the chuck and having an axis, a driving motor, a second shaft extending from the driving motor substantially parallel to the first shaft, means for transmitting a rotation of the second shaft to the first shaft and including a single belt connecting the shafts with one another, and a housing surrounding the shafts. The housing has a top surface which is spaced from the axis of the first shaft by a distance which is at most equal to a distance between the axis of the first shaft and a top surface of the chuck.

  • Patent number: 4827996
Abstract: A power tool for trimming laminate having a motor, a motor housing, interchangeable bases, and a clamping ring. The motor housing has a lower portion having a smaller diameter than that of the rest of the housing. The clamping ring extends from and over the base and clamps around the lower portion of the motor housing. The interchangeable bases are formed as a trim router, laminate trimmer, offset trimmer, and tilt base trimmer, all of which clamp onto the lower portion of the motor housing so that the same motor can be used with any of the bases. The motor housing is also rotatable relative to the base into any one of a plurality of relative angular positions without affecting depth of cut of a bit.

  • Patent number: 4194543
Abstract: A grooving indexer is provided for use with routing apparatus to improve the capability of the apparatus for rapidly routing straight parallel grooves in cabinet doors and similar panels. The routing apparatus is of the type in which a router is mounted on the end of a bar for extension over a panel to be routed and in which the router can be moved in any direction across the panel by reason of the bar being mounted on a carrier for longitudinal movement in one dimension of the panel, and the carrier being mounted for movement parallel to the other dimension of the panel. The grooving indexer comprises a series of stops adjustable longitudinally of the bar and a pivotal lever on the carriage biased into engagement with the stops to prevent longitudinal movement of the bar unless the lever is tripped.

  • Patent number: 4185671
Abstract: An accessory is provided for use with routing apparatus to facilitate the routing of arcuate designs in cabinet doors and similar panels. The routing apparatus is of the type in which a router is mounted on the end of a bar for extension over a panel to be routed and in which the router can be moved in any direction in a plane parallel to the panel by reason of the bar being mounted in a carrier for longitudinal movement in one dimension of the panel, and the carrier being mounted for movement parallel to the other dimension of the panel. The accessory comprises a radius arm which may be adjustably connected at one end to the bar and is slidably mounted in a pivot block mounted for movement in the same direction as the carriage. An adjustable stop on the radius arm limits its longitudinal movement and an adjustable stop limits movement of the pivot block whereby the router can be guided in a preselected curved path by causing the radius arm to pivot around the pivot block.

  • Patent number: 4114664
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for supporting and guiding a router for the purpose of routing an ornamental design in panels such as cabinet doors and drawer fronts. The router is attached to the end of a bar extending over the workpiece, the bar being slidable longitudinally in a carriage which in turn is movable on a rail extending at right angles to the bar. Adjustable stops are provided to limit movement of the bar and carriage so that the router may be guided in a rectangular path of movement of predetermined dimensions. Selectively usable templets are provided for changing the path of movement of the router, particularly at the corners of the predetermined rectangular path to vary the design being routed.
