Patent number: 5244738
Abstract: A coating composition that inhibits corrosion of metal substrates, a method of inhibiting corrosion of a metal substrate with a corrosion-inhibiting coating composition, and a metal article that resists corrosion are disclosed. The corrosion-inhibiting coating composition comprises: (a) a high molecular weight epoxy resin; (b) a phenolic resin; (c) an organic corrosion inhibitor having the general structural formula ##STR1## wherein each R is selected, independently, from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, alkylsulfonyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl, alkylphenyl, phenylalkyl, halo, cyano, nitro, carboxyl, carboxyalkyl, hydroxy, amino, and carbamoyl, and wherein R.sub.1 R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are selected, independently, from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, carboxyalkyl, carboxyl, phenyl, and phenylalkyl, and wherein at least one of the R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.
