  • Patent number: 5476437
Abstract: A removable clamp assembly for the ends of an elastomer sleeve of a spreader roller which includes and outer bearing ring, a clamp cup and a clamp cover. The outer bearing ring has a textured outer diameter which is sized to fit closely in said elastomer sleeve. The outer bearing ring also includes a central bore for mounting of an anti friction bearing therein. The clamp cup is sized to fit on the outer diameter of the elastomer sleeve and includes a plurality of clamp segments which are arrayed on the outer edge of an end ring. The segments have a tapered outer surface terminating in a mouth portion. A clamp cover is fitted onto and over the tapered outer surface thereby clamping said elastomer sleeve between the clamping segments and the bearing ring.

  • Patent number: 5461760
Abstract: A sleeve stretcher assembly for the ends of an elastomer sleeve of a spreader roller which includes a stationary shaft having at least one of its end portions configured as a tube. A slide rod is adapted for sliding interior of said tube in a direction parallel to an axis of the shaft. A hub member is arrayed exterior of said tube while being connected to the slide rod by a pivot means. An axis of the hub member is selectively tilted with respect to an axis of said shaft by a tilt adjusting means. The slide rod is selectively positioned interior of the tube by a linear adjusting means. The selected linear adjustment is maintained by a locking means.

  • Patent number: 4944468
Abstract: An improved rotatable and expandable spindle assembly, which is adapted for cantilever mounting in and on a machine base. The spindle assembly has an integrally mounted multi-ported directional control valve for point of use operation. The valve is connected to a constant supply of a pressurized medium and is mounted at and on the free end of the spindle assembly. The spindle and valve arrangement is adapted for a rapid expansion or collapsing of the spindle when and as desired by an operator.

  • Patent number: 4862565
Abstract: This invention pertains to a spreader roll adapted to remove wrinkles, ripples, bags and torque marks from fast-traveling webs of material of fabric, plastic or combinations thereof. The resulting fast-traveling web has a smooth, uninterrupted surface. This spreader roll is not a bowed or grooved roll, but is a straight roll having a resilient outer tubular rubber sleeve. The supporting shaft is straight, rigid, non-rotating, and is carried by support blocks. This outer sleeve is retained at each end by clamp means which is carried by anti-friction bearings. This clamp means includes a bearing ring which is pivotally carried by the central shaft. Each pivoted bearing ring is individually adjusted to stretch the resilient cover to remove the distorting wrinkles, ripples, bags or torque marks in the fast-moving web. A multiplicity of disc brushes is carried on a freely rotating tubular member and these brushes are positioned by spacer rings.

  • Patent number: 4332356
Abstract: There is provided apparatus in the form of a chuck that is adapted for winding a plurality of strips of material on narrow cores with the build-up of strip windings being regulated by an adjustment of pressurized air or fluid into a resilient tube in the chuck. The chuck includes a plurality of movable leaves and fixed separators carried on an inner core. The leaves are retained against excessive outward movement by cooperative longitudinal edge retaining means provided on and by the fixed separators. The resilient tube is carried in a groove formed in the inner support member and this tube supports and moves a plurality of saddle members each of which carries at least one drive member.

  • Patent number: 4204619
Abstract: This invention pertains to a web guide apparatus having a pivoted frame upon which are mounted parallel, constant diameter rollers. This frame is pivotally secured at one end near a roller and is moved around this pivot by an actuating mechanism such as an air or hydraulic cylinder or by a reversing motor. This movable frame is supported for a pivotal motion by a plurality of stanchions secured to a support plate frame. Each stantion has an upper and a lower ball caster or support. These balls have a specific apart spacing into which a hardened steel plate segment extends as carried by the pivoted frame. This pivoted frame and the parallel rollers fixed thereto are moved by a motor or cylinder means in accordance with edge sensing means.

  • Patent number: 4124173
Abstract: This invention pertains to an expanding mandrel or chuck in which air or hydraulic fluid is fed to and into a resilient tube arranged either in a helical or longitudinal manner. This application particularly pertains to an expanding outer sleeve as shown in my U.S. Pat. No. 3,937,412 as issued on Feb. 10, 1976 which is an improvement upon my U.S. Pat. No. 3,917,187 as issued on Nov. 4, 1975. In the improved leaf construction of this application a plurality of leaf-like members is linked so as to be maintained in a complete circle without displacement therefrom or expansion beyond a determined limit. Each leaf-like member has one longitudinal edge formed with a keyhole-type groove and the other edge formed with the tongue member having an enlarged outer portion which slidably fits into this groove. In an assembled condition the tongue member of one leaf is mounted in the keyhole groove of the next adjacent leaf. This keyhole-type groove arrangement and mating tongue provide a safety means to the expansion.

  • Patent number: 3998560
Abstract: This invention pertains to an automatically-closing coupling which is adaptable to permit either roundended or square-ended shafts to be laterally inserted thereinto. Pedestals, including anti-function bearing rotatably support driving and driven spindles. Lateral slots are provided in the pedestals, in intermediate locking sleeves and in the spindles into which the ends of a shaft are freely received when the slots are all rotated into alignment and held by a detent means. After the shaft is inserted, a quarter turn of the spindle causes relative rotation between the spindles and the sleeves, locks the shaft in the spindles and releases the detent means, thus allowing free rotation of the shaft and spindles relative to the pedestals.

  • Patent number: 3937412
Abstract: This invention pertains to a segmented expanding sleeve for an expanding mandrel or chuck in which air or hydraulic fluid is fed to and into a resilient tube or tubes arranged in a longitudinal or in a helical manner. This tube or these tubes are carried by and in grooves formed in the body and when pressurized air or fluid is fed into the tube means the tube or tubes are expanded in a controlled manner to outwardly move a plurality of like-linked leaf members or segments. Each leaf member has one longitudinal edge formed with a keyhole-type groove and the other edge of each leaf is formed with a tongue member having an enlarged outer portion. In an assembled condition the tongue member of one leaf is mounted in the keyhole groove of the next adjacent leaf and these tongue and groove arrangements provide an outer limit to the expansion. Resilient inner tying members extend between leaf members and retain and draw the leaf members into an inner limit against the body of the chuck.
