  • Patent number: 5464228
Abstract: A restraining element for preventing separation of telescoped pipes comprising a compressible body of elastomeric material, the compressible body having metal segments spaced equidistantly around an exposed face of the body, each of the metal segments having a first exposed face with a row of teeth, at least four teeth of the row of teeth lying in an arc, and at least some of the metal segments having a single tooth extending radially outwardly beyond the face of the metal segment opposite the first exposed face.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 16, 1993
Date of Patent: November 7, 1995
Assignee: United States Pipe and Foundry Company
Inventors: Joe Weber, Lawrence S. Jones
  • Patent number: 5295697
Abstract: A restraining element for preventing separation of telescoped pipes comprising a compressible body of elastomeric material, the compressible body having metal segments spaced equidistantly around an exposed face of the body, each of the metal segments having a first exposed face with a row of teeth extending radially inwardly and a single acutely pointed tooth extending radially outwardly beyond the face of metal segment opposite said first exposed face.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 4, 1992
Date of Patent: March 22, 1994
Assignee: United States Pipe and Foundry Company
Inventors: Joe Weber, Lawrence S. Jones
  • Patent number: 5269569
Abstract: A wall at one end of a chamber in the bell end of an enclosing pipe is adapted to receive the nose end of toothed metal segments to prevent disengagement of pipes and to transfer radial forces into axial forces.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 18, 1992
Date of Patent: November 23, 1993
Assignee: United States Pipe and Foundry Company

  • Patent number: 4867488
Abstract: This invention pertains to bolted mechanical pipe joints using toothed gripper rings to prevent separation of the pipe.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 6, 1988
Date of Patent: September 19, 1989
Assignee: United States Pipe and Foundry Company
    Inventor: Lawrence S. Jones
  • Patent number: 4756784
Abstract: This invention pertains to a method of making a pipe gasket having an asymmetric profile which is made by connecting two ends of an extruded elastomeric material, and the gasket made thereby.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 2, 1986
Date of Patent: July 12, 1988
Assignee: United States Pipe and Foundry Company

  • Patent number: 4685705
Abstract: This invention pertains to a pipe joint which allows greater joint deflection by the use of a bell stub between a pair of coupled pipes. The bell stub has a bell contour inside and a plain end contour outside.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 27, 1986
Date of Patent: August 11, 1987
Assignee: United States Pipe and Foundry Company
    Inventor: Lawrence S. Jones
  • Patent number: 4660866
Abstract: The invention concerns pipe joints in which an improved locking segment has an outwardly extending protrusion which is adapted to abut a circumferential wall in the bell end of a pipe which telescopically receives a second pipe.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 12, 1986
Date of Patent: April 28, 1987
Assignee: United States Pipe and Foundry Company
Inventors: Lawrence S. Jones, Billy J. Battle
  • Patent number: 4540204
Abstract: A bell and plain end pipe joint are provided wherein the plain end has a raised portion on its outside diameter. A series of locking segments fit into a circumferential groove in the bell of one pipe and engage both the raised portion on the plain pipe and a portion of the bell. Upon an increase in fluid pressure in the pipes, the pipes tend to separate axially and the locking segments also contact and bear against a different portion of the bell. The joint provides a novel means of distributing the axial thrust tending to separate the pipe being joined.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 4, 1983
Date of Patent: September 10, 1985
Assignee: United States Pipe and Foundry Company
Inventors: Billy J. Battle, Robert M. Graham, Lawrence S. Jones, Andrew B. Malizio, George F. Rhodes
  • Patent number: 4532957
Abstract: A friction reducing guide is provided as an insert in the metal gate of a resilient seated gate valve. The gate is encapsulated almost entirely with rubber except for the guide area. Friction is reduced and any corrosion resistant coating inside the valve body is protected, in the guide area, from excessive abrasion.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 24, 1983
Date of Patent: August 6, 1985
Assignee: United States Pipe and Foundry Company
Inventors: Billy J. Battle, Lawrence S. Jones
