Patent number: 4498620Abstract: A carton provided with a carrying handle on the top wall. The handle comprises a plastic strip folded back on itself adjacent one end with an accordion pleat. The ends of the strip are affixed to the inner surface of the lower of two overlying flaps forming the top wall. The strip extends through complemental openings in the overlying flaps forming the top wall, and can be extended vertically because of the pleated end to form a hand hold. A pivotable panel is hingedly connected to and cut from the lower of the two overlying flaps adjacent the openings through which the handle extends to close the opening in the top wall to preclude contaminants from entering the interior of the carton through the openings.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 1984Date of Patent: February 12, 1985Assignee: Champion International CorporationInventors: James C. Patent number: 4261462Abstract: A display package for an article including a front support sheet having an opening; a rear support sheet coupled to the front sheet; a flexible sheet having a portion extending from the front sheet, spanning the opening and receiving the article; and a third support sheet received inside and adjacent the flexible sheet. The third support sheet is advantageously formed from the material cut from the first sheet to form the opening. The third sheet not only adds additional support for the flexible sheet and the article but also provides additional space on the package for printed matter.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1980Date of Patent: April 14, 1981Assignee: Champion International CorporationInventor: Lawrence S. Patent number: 4228945Abstract: Disclosed is a carton which is especially adapted for heating food products in microwave ovens. The bottom surface of the carton is cut to define a plurality of spaced apertures, each of which is closed by removable means. A strip of film is secured to the bottom surface of the carton and the removable means so that, upon removal of the film prior to heating, the means are removed with the film to provide vent holes which allow moisture vapor generated during heating to escape. In a preferred embodiment, the carton has two separable compartments joined by a common top and two common side walls with an intermittent cut line extending across the top and down the common side walls to permit separation of the two compartments. The compartments have individual bottom panels, each of which is cut to provide a plurality of removable tabs held within spaced apertures by spaced nicks.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1979Date of Patent: October 21, 1980Assignee: Champion International CorporationInventor: Lawrence S.
