  • Patent number: 5573453
Abstract: Described is a fiber reinforced abrasive polishing and finishing tool comprising:a multi layer laminate comprised of a first abrasive layer and a second abrasive layer, anda layer of B-staged adhesive resin matrix containing fiber reinforcing material, e.g. graphite between the abrasive layers wherein all of the layers are secured together at least in part by the adhesive resin. Also described is a method of manufacturing the tool by applying heat and pressure to a laminate of the adhesive and abrasive layers with the adhesive layer therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4918874
Abstract: A method of preparing abrasive articles exhibiting improved homogeneity and breakdown properties is disclosed. The method comprises admixing abrasive grits and a bond phase comprising silica particles, alumina, a flux and water, to form a slurry, such that the silica particles are on the average smaller than the average grit particles; drying the slurry to form a precursor powder; and compacting the precursor powder to form an abrasive greenware article. This abrasive greenware article can then be densified, for example, by sintering, to form a densified abrasive article. The resulting abrasive article has a porcelain bond composition. Because of the uniform bond composition attained with this invention, extremely fine abrasive grits can be employed.
