  • Publication number: 20070253405
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for initiating a user selected service, which makes use of a packet data connection, in conjunction with establishing the packet data connection. The method includes receiving a request to initiate a user selected service, which uses a packet data connection, prior to the establishment of the packet data connection. An activation request is then sent for establishing a packet data connection, the activation request includes user selected service parameters for use in defining a user selected service. The user selected service is then initiated as part of establishing the packet data connection. The apparatus includes a processor coupled to a user input for receiving a request to initiate a user selected service and a transceiver for communicating with a network. The processor includes a connection module adapted for establishing a packet data connection via the transceiver.

  • Patent number: 7277392
Abstract: The present invention manages data link resources in a wireless communication device by managing the data link resource needs of multiple client applications including the creation and sharing of data link resources. If the requested data link resources can be accommodated by the already established data link resources (106), then one or more of the already established data link resources are shared (108) with the application making the request for data link resources. If the requested data link resources can not be accommodated by the already established data link resources, then the data link resources are upgraded (110) to accommodate the additional requirements of the received request.

  • Publication number: 20070091898
Abstract: A method in a communication of establishing the existence of quality of service preconditions in a communication network, the method comprising the steps of sending (206) an SIP registration request message; and receiving (208) a registration acknowledgement message having a QOS precondition preference indication. Then sending (406) an invite that includes a quality of service precondition message that corresponds with the QoS precondition preference indication of the registration acknowledgement message.

  • Publication number: 20060293073
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for mixed mode conference call setup. The method includes the steps of inviting users to a mixed mode conference call by providing invitation information from an inviting user to a server and thereby providing invitations from the server to each of the users. The invitation information indicates the users, the modes acceptable for the conference call and the mode accepted by the inviting user. The invitations from the server include information indicating the modes acceptable for the conference call. The users provide a response to the server which includes information indicating a selected mode accepted by each user. The server sets up a conference call where each of the users and the inviting user communicate in the selected modes accepted by each.

  • Publication number: 20060121924
Abstract: A method (600, 700) and apparatus (800) are described for selecting a Push to Video (PTV) service mode (303) allowing transmission of a video information stream (102) and a corresponding audio information stream (103) from an originating wireless communication unit (110) having floor control to a wireless target communication unit (120). Depending on a camera (420) setting, a desired PTV service mode is invoked when a PTV call is initiated by activating a PTV function.

  • Publication number: 20060083244
Abstract: A method of setup and management of multiple resources in multiparty multimedia conference sessions. The method can include accepting a multiple resource session initiation request from a client, the multiple resource session initiation request requesting initiation of the multiple resource session, the multiple resource session including multiple resources. The multiple resource session initiation request can include a list of session participants and a session resource description including a plurality of group resource descriptions. Each group resource description can describe a logical group of at least one resource of at least one media type. The method can also include assigning a group identifier to each group resource description and assigning a session identifier to the session. The method can further include transmitting to the session participants the session identifier and a new session resource description.

  • Publication number: 20060082641
Abstract: A method (300) and an apparatus (110) for a communication device for controlling an image portion and an audio portion of a push-to-video communication are disclosed. The communication device (110) initiates the push-to-video communication (304), establishes the push-to-video communication (306), transmits the image portion and the audio portion of the push-to-video communication (308), and makes control of at least one of the image and audio portions of the push-to-video communication available (310) for other communication devices involved in the push-to-video communication. The communication device (110), after making the control of at least one of the image and audio portions of the push-to-video communication available, continues to transmit the corresponding portions of the push-to-video communication (312). The communication device (110) relinquishes the control when one of the other communication devices takes the control.

  • Publication number: 20060073843
Abstract: A method in a communication network entity, for example, a push-to-talk/anything server, for content sharing in a group communication session including obtaining (210) participant information from a plurality of group participants, determining (220) common group information based on the group participant information obtained, and sending (230) the common group information to the group participants, wherein the group participants format content based on the common group information before communicating content to other participants of the group session.

  • Publication number: 20050111409
Abstract: A communication system provides for a mobile station (MS) to pre-register with a Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN) servicing a neighboring Routing Area (RA) that is a handoff candidate. In pre-registering with the neighboring RA and SGSN, the MS at least partially registers with the RA and SGSN, that is, at least a portion of the MS's registration information is conveyed to the neighboring SGSN serving the neighboring RA, prior to the MS being served by an associated neighboring BSS 230, for example, prior to an initiation of a handoff of the MS to neighboring BSS 230. By pre-registering with the candidate SGSN, a duration of a registration process and the corresponding service disruptions when the MS is handed off to such an SGSN are reduced.

  • Patent number: 6885645
Abstract: A method (500) and a mobile station (160) for controlling bearer assignment are described herein. In a wireless communication system (100), a core network (210) is configured to provide communication services to the mobile station (160). The mobile station (160) may detect a resource conflict associated with a communication service within the mobile station (160). Upon detecting the resource conflict, the mobile station (160) may determine a condition of the resource conflict suggesting to delay a bearer assignment for the communication service. Based on the condition of the resource conflict, the mobile station (160) may transmit a request associated with the bearer assignment to the core network (210).
