  • Publication number: 20090108003
Abstract: A device for a cup and lid providing a thermal shield to keep the cup's liquid contents hot and facilitating the interval transfer, temporary storage, and cooling of a small amount of liquid prior to drinking. The conservation of heat energy within the cup allows the preservation of aroma and taste, a definite must for a prolonged and enjoyable drinking experience, while a controlled volume of the beverage cools down to a palatable temperature. Also, when the device is used in conjunction with a disposable cup and lid assembly, it improves the stiffness characteristics of the containment assembly, thereby preventing potential spillage or discharge of the hot contents due to accidental or improper handling.

  • Patent number: 6571973
Abstract: A lid for a cup having a rim has a first component having a sip opening, the sip opening being located on the first component so as to be adjacent the rim of the cup when the lid is mounted on the cup. The lid further includes a second component having an edge defining at least a portion of a spill opening, the spill opening being spaced from the sip opening substantially along a line corresponding to a diameter of the rim of the cup when the lid is mounted on the cup. The lid still further includes a spillover chamber connected to the second component so as to receive liquid from within the cup through the spill opening when the cup is tipped toward the second position, the spillover chamber being outside of the cup when the lid is mounted on the cup.

  • Patent number: 6276095
Abstract: A support structure including a first and a second upper ring member. The support structure further includes a lower circular foundation of a diameter greater than the diameters of the first and second upper ring members. A plurality of initially straight and elongated structural members extend from each of the upper ring members. Extending from each of the ring members are an equal number of structural members. The structural members extend radially at angular intervals on both the upper and lower rings. Each of the structural members have a first and a second lateral end. The structural members are secured at their first lateral ends to either the first or second upper ring members. The structural members are further secured at their second lateral ends to the lower foundation. Thereafter, the structural members are manipulated to create a lattice formation comprised of S-shaped, elastically-modified structural members.
