  • Publication number: 20160008160
Abstract: A thermoformable laminate for use in making orthopedic splints is composed of a sheet of thermoformable splinting material having opposite sides and a covering layer applied to at least one of those sides as padding for more comfortable application and wear on a patient's limb. The covering layer may be applied to the thermoformable sheet by a fiber flocking process and is chosen to allow heating of the thermoformable sheet to a deformable state by means such as hot air blowers or immersion in hot water. The laminate may be cut with scissors or the like and formed to custom shapes resulting in ready-to-apply orthopedic splints after attachment of splint retaining straps.

  • Publication number: 20060181068
Abstract: A wheelchair has a seat, a reclining backrest and anti-tip legs movable between a retracted position and an extended ground contacting position in response to movement of the backrest between an upright and a reclining condition. The inclination of the backrest can be conveniently adjusted by a person seated in the wheelchair by latching a pair of detent arms in one of several slots spaced under the chair's armrests. The anti-tip legs extend to support the wheelchair against tipping backwards when the backrest is reclined and retract out of the way when the backrest is brought upright.

  • Publication number: 20050087957
Abstract: An adjustable height seat for a wheelchair has a seat supported on a telescoping support. The seat rises and lowers in response to repositioning of the user's body weight on the seat. A spring normally urges the seat towards an elevated condition. The seat is depressed when the user's body assumes a relatively reclined position to overcome upward urging of the spring. Conversely, the seat rises when the user's body weight is partially rested on a ground surface allowing the spring to lift the seated user's remaining body weight. The telescoping support is frictionally arrested in a generally upright or forward leaning position of the seated user. The adjustable height seat can be installed in a wheelchair frame either permanently or interchangeably with a conventional wheelchair seat.

  • Patent number: 6311942
Abstract: A cane holder for holding upright a walking cane at the side of a bed has a generally planar frame to be inserted between a mattress and a box spring of a bed. A clamp on a side of the frame protrudes to one side of the bed. A walking cane held in the clamp provides a convenient hold for a person rising from the bed. The cane can then be released from the clamp for use as a walking aid away from the bed. A preferred walking cane has a foldable mid-height hand grip in addition to a top handle to provide two holds at different heights on the cane.
