    Abstract: A method and system for scoring task information. Through the use of an electronic time management device, such as a cell phone or other portable digital computer based device programmed to support this method, a user enters a description of a task and when the task should be completed. This information is then communicated to a scoring system, and the information is scored without human intervention and points are given. Optionally, if the information cannot be automatically scored, it is scored by a person. These points can be banked and then be used toward a socially desirable reward, such as sending text messages or playing music or watching videos. This is particularly effective in teaching time management skills to young students who may have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

    Abstract: An improved method for error recovery in client-server distributed processing systems using cascaded servers. The method adds an additional form of acknowledgement message from a server to its predecessor. This message is sent when the server has completed all its processing and has received an ACK message from its successor, indicating that its result has been successfully received by the successor. The predecessor server retains a copy of its results until it receives the done message, at which time the copy of the results is discarded. If a done message is not received by the time a timer has expired, indicating that a problem has occurred with a server or its communications, the predecessor server resends its stored results.

    Abstract: A means and method for comparing an incoming sequential string of digitally encoded characters from a database stored in a conventional memory against a pattern with an arbitrary number of elements, comprising specified characters or character types (alphabetic, numeric, delimiter, etc.) or tokens to indicate the matching of a specified or arbitrary number of input characters, is disclosed. The system comprises a number of digital machines, sequenced by control words fetched from their memories. The control words may indicate the current input character or character type of interest for each machine, the address of the potential next control word of the machine, a flag indicating the successful completion of a match, and other control fields.
