  • Patent number: 9002046
Abstract: Examples of systems and methods of wireless control of a canal hearing device by applying a magnetic field on the skin at the temporomandibular region of the head are described. An exemplary hearing device may include one or more magnetic sensors for wireless activation by the magnetic end of a remote control device applied inconspicuously to the anterior of the external ear. The activation of a reed switch magnetic sensor within the canal hearing device may be decoded by the electronics of the hearing device to implement a control command, such as volume change, program setting change, ON, or OFF. According to examples described, wireless control of the canal hearing device may be implemented with a natural, comfortable, and inconspicuous hand-arm motion. In some embodiments, multiple reed switches may be arranged to selectively respond to a magnetic field applied within distinct “hot spot” regions, for separate remote control commands.

  • Patent number: 8948611
Abstract: A circuit and method for reducing power consumption in an I/R receiver system includes determining a duty cycle of a command cycle comprising a series of command pulses separated by nulls and enabling and disabling selective active components of an I/R receiver system in accordance with the duty cycle. In an embodiment, the enabling of the active components commences during a null prior to the arrival of a new command pulse. In a further example embodiment, the enabling includes first enabling a first set of active components having a first settling time, waiting for at least the first settling time, and then second enabling a second set of active components having a second settling time.

  • Publication number: 20150001842
Abstract: A multi-axis hose connector is provided. The assembly comprises a first and second hose connector end secured to a first and second housing. The housings and the inner end of each connector end support a captive ball therein, where the captive balls form a first and second ball joint that permits the connector ends to freely swivel and pivot relative to one another. Between the ball joints is an elongated tube member having open ends and an open interior. The tube member secures to the captive balls and aligns with an open conduit therethrough, while each of the housings and connector ends include an open interior. The open interior of the tube member, captive balls, housings, and end connectors form a continuous conduit through which fluid flows, despite the angular position of the assembly. In this way, the assembly provides a unique hose connector with several degrees of freedom.

  • Patent number: 8920806
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a method of modulating an inflammatory response in a mammal and to agents useful for same. More particularly, the present invention relates to a method of modulating an inflammatory response in a mammal by modulating the functional activity of activin and thereby modulating the pro-inflammatory mediator cascade. The method of the present invention is useful, inter alia, in the treatment and/or prophylaxis of conditions characterized by an aberrant, unwanted or otherwise inappropriate inflammatory response including, inter alia, sepsis and inflammation of the airway. The present invention is further directed to methods for identifying and/or designing agents capable of modulating activin mediated regulation of the inflammatory response.

  • Patent number: 8724176
Abstract: As set forth herein, methods and systems facilitate the fusing of unassociated images into an original document image. An unassociated image is received into a set of unassociated images in computer memory by an associated scanning device, and the size for each unassociated image is determined. The size of each unassociated image is then compared to at least one other known image size, and a matching related unassociated image is retrieved from the set of unassociated images corresponding to each unassociated image based at least in part on an output of the comparison. The matches of related images are then aligned and fused to form an original document image.
