  • Publication number: 20090307720
Abstract: An apparatus provides an emergency alert function for mobile units such as motor vehicles, airplanes, portable devices and/or any other type of mobile structures. According to an exemplary embodiment, the apparatus includes a memory operative to store data including (i) location data that correlates first location information to second location information, and (ii) at least one user selected event type. A processor is coupled to the memory and is operative to determine a current location using the location data and to process a signal indicating an emergency event. The processor enables an alert output if the emergency event corresponds to the current location and the at least one user selected event type.

  • Patent number: 7376991
Abstract: A medical examination table has a seat section and a back section supported on a base. The seat and back sections are selectively adjustable to place a patient resting thereon in various positions for examination or the performance of medical procedures. The seat section has a relatively low profile that accommodates storing various accessories beneath the seat section while providing a high level of patient comfort and ensuring a low overall table height. In one embodiment, the seat section comprises a seat frame having a central open area, and a layer of web material extending over the open area.

  • Patent number: 6546094
Abstract: A system and method for provisioning cable telephone service in a cable communication system that is at least partially integrated with a telephone network. The cable communication system includes a head end Remote Digital Terminal (RDT) respectively communicating with a broadband network, a telephone switch and a customer premises Integrated Service Unit (ISU), and also includes an Order Management Center (OMC) associated with the RDT, the switch, or both. To implement telephone service to customer premises equipment adapted for communication with the ISU, the RDT is notified of a new service request by way of a service request message sent from the ISU to the RDT, and the switch is notified of the new service request by way of provisioning information sent from the OMC to the switch via an Element Management System (EMS) associated with the switch.

  • Patent number: 6448589
Abstract: A connector block formed in a semiconductor chip to provide all contacts on the same side of the chip. The connector block is preferably formed by driving a slow diffusing dopant deep into the chip from both sides until the diffused dopant overlaps in the middle of the chip. The connector block is metalized with a top contact and connected to circuits. The bottom of the connector block is metallized and connected to other bottom side contacts which, in turn may be connected to circuits. This arrangement effectively allows all contacts to be available from the top side of the semiconductor chip.

  • Patent number: 6363783
Abstract: Determination is made of the amount of liquid housed within a vessel subject to intermittent dynamic forces wherein the liquid in the vessel may be being discharged intermittently. The fluid in the vessel has a liquid level above which is a vessel headspace. A sensing tube of substantially less volume than the vessel is provided. This tube also is subject to the intermittent dynamic forces. The tube has tube headspace that is held at the same pressure as the vessel headspace, e.g., atmospheric pressure. The sensing tube is fitted with a sensor assembly for measuring the level of liquid therein. The tube is in fluid communication with the vessel through an orifice in the vessel whereby the fluid level in the vessel is the same as the fluid level in the tube. The size of the orifice is such that the tube fluid level measured by the sensor assembly is substantially unaffected by the intermittent dynamic forces.

  • Patent number: 6178238
Abstract: An arrangement for permitting callers to make speed dialing calls away from their home telephone. A speed dialing list is maintained for those who subscribe to this service for a particular telephone line. When the caller who normally uses that line and makes use of his/her speed dialing feature from that line, and is away from his/her telephone, speed dialing service can be obtained if the call is a calling card, or credit/debit card telephone call. Such calls are routed initially to a switch for serving such calls. This switch then queries a calling card or credit card data base to obtain either a number corresponding to the caller's speed calling number, or to obtain an identification of the switch which contains that caller's speed dialing list. The caller is identified by his/her calling card, or credit/debit card number.

  • Patent number: 5861784
Abstract: A remotely controllable circuit breaker device for interrupting current in a circuit path between a source and a load includes local and remote monitoring capabilities and a gear mechanism for reliable remote control of the interruption mechanism. The device includes a first contact and a second contact cooperatively arranged in the circuit path so as to provide current from the source to the load. At least one of the contacts is disposed on a contact carrier which is movable for interrupting the current provided to the load. The gear mechanism includes a motor with a rotatable shaft which responds to open and closed control signals generated from a remote location, and a gear, rotatably responsive to the rotatable shaft, for controlling the contact carrier so that the circuit path is interrupted and established, respectively. The gear mechanism controls the contact carrier using a coupling arrangement, which has a first part coupled to the contact carrier and a second part coupled to the gear.

  • Patent number: 5834997
Abstract: A coupling member for securing a spring to a rotatable motor shaft so that the spring rotates with the motor shaft. The coupler has a cylindrical hollow middle which fits snugly onto the motor shaft and includes a main body portion having a smaller cylindrically shaped nose portion extending therefrom for receiving one end of the spring therearound. The main body portion includes a ramp portion, extending upwardly therefrom, a wall behind the ramp portion and a slot therein for receiving a hook portion extending from the spring. The hook portion is snugly secured in the slot and behind the wall so that as the motor shaft rotates, the coupler member causes the spring to rotate with the motor shaft.
