  • Patent number: 10686626
Abstract: In one embodiment, an apparatus comprises a processor, wherein the processor is configured to: detect deployment context information for an edge gateway, wherein the deployment context information identifies a deployment environment of the edge gateway based on information from one or more sensors; transmit, via a communications network, the deployment context information for the edge gateway to a gateway management node; receive, via the communications network, a gateway configuration for the edge gateway from the gateway management node; and configure the edge gateway based on the gateway configuration.

  • Publication number: 20170187835
Abstract: Technologies for enabling functionality of a gateway device are described. A gateway device installs, at run time, a first plugin associated with a first communication protocol and a first application. The first plugin includes computer-executable instructions that enable the gateway device to communicate with a client computing device that executes the first application using the first communication protocol. Additionally, the gateway device receives a command from the client computing device using the first communication protocol to provide requested data pertaining to at least one field device coupled to the gateway device. Additionally, the gateway device transmits the requested data to the client computing device using the first communication protocol, in response to the command. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

  • Publication number: 20160380968
Abstract: A method for naming devices in a network is described herein. The method includes receiving, via a processor, device information associated with a device, a gateway, or both, from the gateway. The method also includes analyzing, via the processor, the device, the gateway, or both, using the device information to generate human-to-machine and machine-to-machine relationship contexts. The method further includes generating, via the processor, classifications for the device, the gateway, or both, based on human-to-machine and machine-to-machine relationship contexts. The method also further includes generating, via the processor, a device name for the device, the gateway, or both, based on the classifications. The method also includes sending, via the processor, the device name or device names to the gateway.

  • Patent number: 7881470
Abstract: A node that couples to the Internet establishes a secure connection with another node that couples to the Internet. The secure connection to be established via an IPsec security association. The node registers with an authority that couples to the Internet and provides public key infrastructure (PKI) services. Registration is to include obtaining both a private and a public and key. The PKI services to include providing the private key to only the registered node and providing the public key to another registered node that requests PKI services from the authority. The node requests the PKI services from the authority based on a change in a point of attachment for the node to the Internet. The node then authenticates the other node via the PKI services and exchanges a secret key with the other node based on the authentication of the other node. The node is to implement an encryption scheme that uses the exchanged secret key for symmetric encryption of data exchanged between the node and the other node.

  • Publication number: 20040258068
Abstract: A process, method, and system that monitors data packets received by one or more network connections, and associates a maximum delay period with each network connection monitored. A transmission queue is maintained for each of the maximum delay periods associated with a network connection, such that each transmission queue includes queue entries that identify the data packets to be transmitted within the respective maximum delay period.

  • Publication number: 20040064580
Abstract: A system and a method for improving network processing efficiency are disclosed. A route table manager assigns a set of data to be transmitted and the accompanying route to a micro-engine and its program threads based on the current workload distribution. The workload distribution is determined by looking at the number of routes assigned to a program thread. The network processing efficiency is further improved by grouping timer values into subsets when stored in memory. A separate tracker thread tracks the countdown timer for each worker thread, the worker thread performing the actual network processing.
