    Abstract: A method and system for processing data packets are described. The method receives multiple types of data packets, sends a first predetermined type of the data packets to a first data path and a second predetermined type of the data packets to a second data path, and communicates the types of data packets received to an arbitrator of a shared resource of the data paths. The method also selects how to handle the data packets based on the communicated types of data packets.
