Publication number: 20250087115Abstract: A portable surgical training device is provided. The trainer includes a top cover spaced apart from a base to form a simulated body cavity for locating model organs that are substantially obscured from the field of view of the user. The top cover includes a video display, fixed insertion ports and interchangeable inserts containing simulated tissue layers. The training device has open sides for demonstrating and training lateral surgical techniques including a simulated or live tissue colon attached to a support leg for simulating transanal minimally invasive surgery. A training endoscope with an adjustable focal length for use with the trainer and, in particular, with optical trocars is disclosed. The surgical trainer can be angled and is well suited for training laparoscopic surgery techniques and demonstrating surgical instruments.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 26, 2024Publication date: March 13, 2025Inventors: Boun Pravong, Kennii Pravongviengkham, Lee Cohen, Charles C. Hart, Vivek Sikri, Zoran Falkenstein, Richard W. Conklin, Eduardo Bolanos, Adam Hoke, Jacob J. Filek, Michael Palermo Palermo

Patent number: 11514819Abstract: A surgical training model that includes a simulated tissue having a tubular shape that is connected to a tissue holder is provided. A portion of the simulated tissue overhangs the distal end of the tissue holder to simulate a cuff-like entry to the vaginal vault or resected intestine suitable for practicing laparoscopic closure of the vaginal vault, intestine or other organ via suturing or stapling. Two concentric tubular structures are also arranged over the same tissue holder. A second model includes two portions of simulated tissue that are held by two holders such that the simulated tissues are adjacent making the model suitable for practicing different types of anastomosis procedures. A third model includes two holders with a single or double tubular simulated tissue structure connected to and spanning a gap between the holders. The model isolates the step of closing a cylindrical opening for the purpose of repeated practice.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2020Date of Patent: November 29, 2022Assignee: Applied Medical Resources CorporationInventors: Tracy Breslin, Charles C. Publication number: 20210014607Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for a wearable audio user interface are described. In accordance with at least one embodiment, the apparatus or article of manufacture comprises a head covering configured to cover an upper portion of a user's head, a transmit audio transducer located in a forehead region of the head covering, and a receive audio transducer located in a temporal region of the head covering. The transmit audio transducer is configured to provide directional response oriented toward a user's mouth to obtain a transmit audio signal. The receive audio transducer is configured to convert a receive audio signal to a form perceptible by a user's ear. As one example, the head covering comprises elasticized knit textile material, and an interface circuit may be located in an occipital region of the head covering and connected to the transmit audio transducer and to the receive audio transducer.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 30, 2020Publication date: January 14, 2021Inventors: Lee Cohen, Ross Snyder

Publication number: 20160310231Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for dispensing at least one fluid for use in reducing the bacteria count on hands during washing and providing an objective measure of cleanliness of hands. The preferred embodiment of the apparatus being in a shape of a magic marker pen comprising at least one chamber which contains a non toxic sterile ink like material that, when applied to a person's hands disappears after a certain amount of time washing and a felt-tip for dispensing said material. The non toxic sterile ink contained in the preferred embodiment is a natural product of Quercus Infectoria or similar which is also an antimicrobial reagent against Staphylococcus, Pseudomonas and common viral agents. In use, after placing a mark on both palms of his/her hands using the apparatus, the user would wash/wipe hands as described above until the ink disappears.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 4, 2012Publication date: October 27, 2016Inventor: Lee Cohen
