  • Patent number: 6735184
Abstract: A system and method for a terrestrial IP network for efficient transmissions within a satellite-terrestrial network. The terrestrial network of a satellite-terrestrial telecommunications system provides for IP signaling between satellite access nodes without the use of dedicated, circuit switched trunks therebetween. The terrestrial network configuration provides for mobile services switching center redundancy and load sharing, as well as direct packet routing between satellite access nodes. Alternatively, a signaling gateway may be interposed on dedicated satellite access node links for converting inter-satellite access node traffic into an IP signaling format for efficient utilization of the direct links.

  • Patent number: 6539771
Abstract: An air bag calibrator that is used to calibrate a plurality of seat sensors within a seat simultaneously. The calibrator uses controlled pressure contained within an air bladder and an air press cylinder to apply a controlled force across an entire seat surface that actuates all of the seat sensors in a consistent and repeatable manner, a major improvement over existing seat calibration methods. This is accomplished by loading a seat onto the calibrator, recording a baseline seat sensor value for each of the seat sensors, extending the air press cylinder to an extended position and applying a controlled force across the entire seat surface. The air pressure in the air bladder is then increased or decreased to a target pressure for a predetermined time, at which time an actuated seat sensor values for each of the seat sensors is recorded.

  • Patent number: 6408182
Abstract: A telecommunications network architecture and method of providing failover operations between mobile switching centers (MSCs). A plurality of MSCs and at least one base station controller (BSC) are connected to an Internet Protocol (IP) network in which transmission paths and control paths are logically separated. The BSC reports to a primary MSC and includes an alternative MSC list identifying at least one backup MSC for the primary MSC. The BSC determines when the primary MSC has failed, and utilizes a control path in the IP network to notify the backup MSC that the BSC has switched its reporting to the backup MSC. The BSC also utilizes a transmission path in the IP network to send mobile station communications from the BSC to the backup MSC. Mobile station location updating requests are sent from the backup MSC to a home location register (HLR). The requests include a new element that informs the HLR that the backup MSC is now serving the mobile station due to a failure of the primary MSC.
