  • Patent number: 8886667
Abstract: An approach is provided for providing a distributed database management and distributed storage system, which can use consumer storage media. A query for data stored in a distributed database formed by a plurality of storage media is received. The plurality of storage media corresponds to a plurality of set-top boxes. A determination is made that which one or more of the set-top boxes is associated with the data stored in the storage media. A request for the data is generated in response to the received query. The request is transmitted to the determined one or more of the set-top boxes.

  • Patent number: 8417227
Abstract: Virtual handsets may be defined and downloaded to physical devices when desired. The use of virtual handsets may allow a user to have multiple different physical handsets or other devices, all of which can present a relatively consistent interface to the user. In one particular implementation, a profiles may be stored that define personal preference and usage information for the virtual handset. The profile may be downloaded a physical handset for implementation of a user interface at the physical handset based on the personal preference and usage information of the profile.

  • Patent number: 8369312
Abstract: An approach is provided for retrieving a system log. Packets that are destined for a predetermined network address and network port are detected and captured. The packets represent a log file corresponding to a customer premise equipment (CPE) for troubleshooting. A data file is generated to contain the log file, wherein the packets are discarded, by at a firewall, before reaching the predetermined network address and network port.

  • Patent number: 8315506
Abstract: A provisioning device intercepts program content from a video client or another multimedia device, where the program content includes copy-protection encryption, and receives additional content from a local router or another networked device, where the additional content is Internet protocol (IP) content. The provisioning device removes the copy-protection encryption from the program content and combines the additional content with the program content. The provisioning device also adds copy-protection encryption to the combined additional content and program content, and sends the copy-protected combined content to a display device.

  • Patent number: 8194565
Abstract: An objective, service-level specific voice call listening quality test scheme for a Voice Over IP (VOIP) network is presented. Test probes are deployed along the border of the VOIP network. Each test probe is capable of placing calls over the VOIP network to the other test probes at different levels of service and measuring call quality using an objective measurement algorithm such as PAMS or PSQM. The measurement results are collected on an ongoing basis to obtain information on the VOIP network's voice call quality. The information is compared to thresholds to measure performance against Service Level Agreement guarantees.

  • Patent number: 8006013
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method and apparatus to efficiently address livelock in a multi-processor system. In one embodiment, the disclosure is directed to a method for preventing a system bus livelock in a system having a plurality of processors communicating respectively through a plurality of bus masters to a plurality of IO Controllers across a system bus by: receiving at an MMIO state machine a plurality of snoop commands issued from the plurality of processors, identifying a first processor and a second processor from the plurality of processors, each of the first processor and the second processor having a first number of snoop commands in the input queue and a second number of responses in the output queue, the first number and the second number exceeding a threshold; issuing a burst prevention response to the first processor and the second process.

  • Patent number: 7873861
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and program for systematically testing the functionality of all connections in a multi-tiered bus system that connects a large number of processors. Each bus controller is instructed to send a test version of a snoop request to all of the other processors and to wait for the replies. If a connection is bad, the port associated with that connection will time out. Detection of a time-out will cause the initialization process to be halted until the problem can be isolated and resolved.

  • Patent number: 7743375
Abstract: An information handling system includes instruction processing nodes in respective physical partitions. A communications bus couples two information processing nodes together. Each node includes hardware resources such as CPUs, memories and I/O adapters. Prior to a command to merge the physical partitions, the communication bus exhibits a disabled state such that the two information processing nodes are effectively disconnected. After receiving a command to merge the physical partitions, the system enables the communication bus to effectively hot-plug the two nodes together. A modified master hypervisor in one node stores data structures detailing the hardware resources of the two nodes. The modified master may assign resources from one node to a logical partition in another node.

  • Patent number: 7502917
Abstract: A processor chip that provides a dynamically selectable operating mode in which particular sequences of instructions are executed without an external interrupt. The processor chip comprises an architected bit that may be set by software and which enables the external interrupt of the processing system to be dynamically enabled/disabled. When a sequence of instructions constituting a data move operation is being issued, the architected bit is toggled to an interrupt disabled state so that execution of the sequence of instructions occurs without an external interrupt. Following the execution of the sequence of instructions, the architected bit is toggled to an interrupt enabled state, which causes instruction execution to be subjected to external interrupts.

  • Patent number: 7480772
Abstract: A cache coherent data processing system includes at least first and second coherency domains each including at least one processing unit. The first coherency domain includes a first cache memory and a second cache memory, and the second coherency domain includes a remote coherent cache memory. The first cache memory includes a cache controller, a data array including a data storage location for caching a memory block, and a cache directory. The cache directory includes a tag field for storing an address tag in association with the memory block and a coherency state field associated with the tag field and the data storage location. The coherency state field has a plurality of possible states including a state that indicates that the memory block is possibly shared with the second cache memory in the first coherency domain and cached only within the first coherency domain.
