  • Patent number: 7591447
Abstract: A wall block comprises an upper surface spaced apart from a substantially parallel lower surface, opposed first and second faces, and opposed side surfaces converging between respective ends of the first and second faces. Blocks in a wall may be stacked on top of each other in either a vertical, set forward or set backward relationship. A three-block system for constructing walls includes a small, medium, and large block, each having two differently sized faces that can serve as the exposed face on one side of a wall. The small, medium, and large blocks can be manufactured using a single mold that is configured to provide a roughened texture resembling natural stone on two opposing faces of each block.

  • Publication number: 20090232473
Abstract: An apparatus and method is presented for receiving and displaying user messages associated with multimedia content. Specifically, the present invention is directed to controlling the operation of a television recording/playback system to permit a user to input a message, associate that message with a selected television program, and display the associated message when the selected television program is accessed by another user (see FIG. 1). The apparatus of the present invention is directed to a system for managing multimedia content including devices for storing television programs and associating with those programs user-generated messages for display to other system users. In this way, the present invention provides content management tools that promote sharing by all users, ease the process of establishing a consensus for managing limited resources, and encourage monitoring by the administrator.

  • Patent number: 7444657
Abstract: A television signal receiver having an emergency alert function provides a masked list of emergency events during a user setup process for the emergency alert function which makes the setup process easier for users, and also ensures that the emergency alert function will be activated when certain important emergency events occur. According to an exemplary embodiment, the television signal receiver includes a memory operative to store data associated with the emergency alert function. A processor is operative to receive an input representing a geographical area and to enable generation of a masked list of emergency events responsive to the input using the data in the memory. The masked list of emergency events represents a subset of all emergency events associated with the emergency alert function.

  • Publication number: 20070091648
Abstract: A mechanism for reducing common-mode current in a system including a first subsystem and an isolated subsystem. The isolated subsystem may receive the common-mode current from the first subsystem via an isolation mechanism. The isolation mechanism (e.g., a transformer) may isolate the isolated subsystem from the first subsystem by blocking DC signals. The first subsystem may include a pulse generation unit and compensation circuitry. The pulse generation unit may provide a first pulse and a second pulse to the compensation circuitry. The phase and duty cycle of the pulses may be varied based on measured characteristics of the isolation mechanism. The compensation circuitry may generate a cancellation signal based on the first and second pulses. Furthermore, the compensation circuitry may provide the cancellation signal to a ground plane of the isolated subsystem to reduce the common-mode current received at the isolation subsystem.

  • Patent number: 7100886
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed for making masonry blocks with one or more surfaces having a roughened texture resembling that of a split block or natural stone. In one embodiment, a mold comprises a plurality of walls defining at least one mold cavity adapted to receive block-forming material. The mold defines an opening through which a formed, uncured block may be removed from the mold. At least one wall of the mold has a plurality of projections extending into the mold cavity so as to contact an adjacent surface of the uncured block in the mold cavity. The projections are positioned such that when the uncured block is removed from the mold, the projections texture the adjacent surface of the uncured block.

  • Patent number: 6318522
Abstract: A damper for damping movement of a shaft, the damper including a housing having an inner surface defining a chamber and a rotor rotatably mounted in the chamber. The chamber is filled with magnetorheological fluid such that when the rotor is moved in the chamber the magnetorheological fluid damps the movement of the rotor. The rotor has an outer surface adjacent to and spaced apart from the inner surface. The damper further comprises shaft coupled to the rotor and an outer magnet adjacent the space between the outer surface and the inner surface for restricting the flow of the magnetorheological fluid in the space between the outer surface and the inner surface.
