Abstract: A method for regulating energy consumption by a steam-fired absorption chiller having a steam control valve for controlling steam flow to the generator in which the steam pressure upstream of the steam control valve is measured as well as the steam pressure downstream of the steam control valve. Using the steam pressure data, chiller size, COP of the chiller, valve size and valve type of the steam control valve, the desired steam control valve position for the steam control valve is calculated by means of an algorithm using said data. The output of the algorithm is then used to adjust the steam control valve to the desired steam control valve position.
