  • Publication number: 20230082625
Abstract: A wearable device to assist with memory that includes a processor, a haptic output device, and a button. When a wearer of the device encounters a piece of information they want to remember but thinks they may forget (e.g. the name of someone they just met; a phone number; a coupon code; an address; a new word definition, etc.) they simply press the single button on the device. The single button press initiates a pre-set schedule of tactile reminders about that piece of information. The reminders are vibrational and/or haptic outputs triggered by the processor that come quickly at first, and then become more spaced out over time. The device beneficially assists users in implementing the empirically supported ‘spaced retrieval’ memory strategy—where spaced retrieval refers to a method of retrieving information at longer and longer intervals to aid memory retention for selected pieces of information.

  • Patent number: 11560829
Abstract: A recirculation system for a power system is disclosed. The recirculation system may determine, according to a sequence for individually activating a plurality of turbochargers of an engine, that a designated turbocharger of the plurality of turbochargers is to be activated. The recirculation system may cause a recirculation valve of a recirculation line to open to increase an airflow between an intake manifold and a compressor of the designated turbocharger.

  • Patent number: 11480115
Abstract: A method of operating a dual fuel engine includes conveying intake air, and a first fuel as a vapor and as a liquid, into a combustion cylinder in an engine, and directly injecting a second fuel into the combustion cylinder to form a first combustion charge of the first fuel as a vapor and as a liquid, the second fuel, and intake air. The second fuel is ignited to initiate combustion of the first combustion charge. Operating the dual fuel engine further includes varying at least one of, a vapor proportion of the first fuel or a total proportion of the first fuel, in a subsequent combustion charge to mitigate undesired combustion. The first fuel can include a liquid alcohol fuel. The second fuel can include a liquid compression-ignition fuel. Related apparatus and control logic is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 11454179
Abstract: An engine brake controller may obtain a performance characteristic of an engine. The engine brake controller may determine, based on the performance characteristic of the engine, that engine braking is enabled to control the engine. The engine brake controller may monitor a set of operating parameters of the engine. The engine brake controller may determine that operating values of the set of operating parameters satisfy corresponding thresholds of the set of operating parameters. The engine brake controller may determine, based on the operating values satisfying the corresponding thresholds, an engine braking configuration associated with activating engine braking of a set of cylinders of the engine. The set of cylinders may be a proper subset of a total quantity of cylinders of the engine. The engine brake controller may cause the engine braking to be applied to the set of cylinders to increase a temperature of exhaust gas from the engine.

  • Publication number: 20220290641
Abstract: A dual fuel system for an internal combustion engine includes a first fuel supply of a liquid pilot fuel, a primary fuel supply of a liquid primary fuel, and a dual fuel injector. The dual fuel injector includes a spill valve fluidly connected with a plunger cavity and movable to control a start of injection and an end of injection, and an admission valve. The admission valve is movable to admit a pilot fuel into the fuel injector, such that the pilot fuel is conveyed through an outlet check to form, within a primary fuel passage fluidly connected to the plunger cavity, a segmented fuel charge of leading pilot fuel and trailing primary fuel by displacing some of the primary fuel. The liquid pilot fuel may be a higher cetane/lower octane liquid fuel, and the primary fuel may be a lower cetane/higher octane liquid fuel.

  • Patent number: 11384708
Abstract: Operating an engine includes injecting a liquid alcohol fuel such as methanol into a stream of compressed intake air at an upstream injection location, and injecting the liquid fuel at a plurality of downstream injection locations into a plurality of streams of the compressed intake air from an intake manifold to combustion cylinders in the engine. A fueling control unit apportions a total injected quantity of the liquid fuel between the upstream injection location and the plurality of downstream injection locations based on a temperature parameter of the compressed intake air. The compressed intake air is combusted with the liquid fuel and a compression ignition pilot fuel in the plurality of combustion cylinders.

  • Publication number: 20220105584
Abstract: Disclosed is a handle clamp for an exothermic mold. The clamp includes a pair of legs, each having a plurality of rods that are shaped to fit into engagement holes on sections of the mold. The rods of each leg engage with one section of the mold. Engagement brackets are rotatably disposed on one or more or the rods. The brackets each have a thumb bolt that can be extended toward a mold section connected with the clamp. When engaged with the mold section, the thumb bolt stabilizes the mold section on the handle. A detent mechanism is provided between the bracket and the leg of the handle. The detent mechanism releaseably holds the bracket in one of a selected plurality of rotational positions with respect to the rod. By selecting different rotational positions for the brackets, the handle can be configured to engage with different configurations of mold. The thumb bolts that are biased toward the mold section by a spring. The bolts include a key that can be aligned or misaligned with a key slot on the bracket.

  • Publication number: 20210406731
Abstract: A network-implemented integrated modeling system for genetic risk estimation uses guideline factor information and other input information to determine models usable for estimating genetic risk of disease in patients. Models are determined using established network connections with external sources. Health history information is collected from a patient, which is then processed against a relevant model to estimate the genetic risk of a disease corresponding to that model in that patient. Based on results of the estimation, a pedigree chart representing personal and family risk for the patient is generated and output to the patient and/or health care representatives of the patient. The results may be disseminated to one or more distributed computing environments from a central server which performs the genetic risk estimation. In some cases, follow-up validations performed using further collected data are used to update the constraints used to determine the models.

  • Patent number: 11047293
Abstract: Operating an internal combustion engine includes conveying fuel of spray plumes of directly injected fuel out of a swirl pocket in a combustion bowl in a piston, and impinging the fuel upon an anti-sooting ramp transitioning between a radially inner shelf surface of the combustion bowl and a radially outer squish surface of the piston. The shelf surface is spaced an axial distance (FA) from a plane defined by the squish surface that is from 1% to 2% of an outer diameter (OD) dimension of the piston. Impinging the fuel upon the anti-sooting ramp directs the fuel upwardly from the squish surface to limit wall-wetting in the combustion cylinder.
