  • Publication number: 20230158605
Abstract: Air management systems are provided for optimizing airflow in laser welding with deflectors. A system for a welder includes a blower to generate an airflow stream. A plenum receives the airflow stream, directs it toward the workpiece, and defines an outlet facing the workpiece to expel the airflow stream toward the workpiece. A deflector adjacent the outlet is formed as a conical section converging from the plenum toward the workpiece, and is defined by an angled wall with an open center. The deflector concentrates the airflow stream to impart a velocity increase to the airflow stream after leaving the outlet and to impart a favorable directional component to the airflow stream toward a weld zone, as well as protecting the laser lens by increasing the downward momentum force of the air stream to eliminate the potential of spatter impinging the lens.

  • Patent number: 10584146
Abstract: Heme released as a result of sustained injury leads to toxicity and triggers an inflammatory response and tissue damage. Heme oxygenase, an enzyme, recognizes, binds free heme and breaks it down as a part of the anti-inflammatory response. The present disclosure relates to a class of peptide amphiphiles that mimic the heme oxygenase function, and have shown that the designed peptide is able to bind and break down heme thus validating its potential as an anti-inflammatory agent that promotes tissue repair and useful in wound healing. The disclosed peptide sequence design provides control of amphiphile peptides' supramolecular structure and function. Applicants have shown that the incorporated heme molecule can transport CO, which suggests that the peptides can also transport NO, O2 and reactive oxygens, the molecules which are responsible for vasodilation, neurotransmission and cell death.

  • Publication number: 20100163471
Abstract: The present invention discloses a desalination plant that operates with a sea water or brackish water feed and produces a concentrated and selectively improved salt reject stream and a pure water permeate stream from a first treatment section that is arranged to produce primarily water at high recovery using membrane desalination processes. The reject stream from the first treatment line has a component distribution that is substantially reduced in native di- and polyvalent scaling ions, essentially depleted of sulfate, has substantially higher total dissolved solids than a traditional sea water reverse osmosis reject, yet is suitable for thermal treatment processes. The system may be enhanced by monovalent salt components. The unit may be integrated with a second treatment section, in which the first reject stream is further concentrated, purified, and processed to produce a high purity salt product.
