  • Patent number: 6682516
Abstract: An absorbent garment having standing leg gathers with improved leak containment capabilities, a method of making the absorbent garment, and a method of determining the leak containment capability of a standing leg gather are disclosed herein. In a first aspect, a method of determining a Leg Gasketing Index is disclosed herein and includes elongating a section of a standing leg gather and measuring the resulting elastic contractile force. In a second aspect, the present invention relates to an absorbent garment including standing leg gathers having a mean Total Leg Gasketing Index over three elongation cycles of at least about 4.75 kg*mm.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 16, 2002
Date of Patent: January 27, 2004
    Assignee: Paragon Trade Brands, Inc.
Inventors: Lee W. Johnston, Kenneth John Molee, Stacy Jean Driskell, John D. Litvay
  • Publication number: 20040015142
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to an absorbent article that includes a top sheet, a back sheet and an absorbent core disposed between the top sheet and the back sheet. The absorbent article has enhanced thermal transmittance by evincing a lower thermal resistance (clo) of less than about 1.7 watts/m2, as measured in a Thermolabo apparatus. The absorbent article of the invention preferably has a low density, low basis weight core, and it provides improved comfort.
    Type: Application
    Filed: July 15, 2003
    Publication date: January 22, 2004

  • Patent number: 5599334
Abstract: An absorbent article having a substantial volume capacity and retainable shape is disclosed which includes a cover sheet, an absorbent core, and a multi-layered moisture barrier laminate including a polymeric foam layer and at least one thermally bonded layer. Also, elastic members are attached to longitudinal sides of the article to form a cup-shaped article which has a cupping strength of about 30 grams to about 90 grams.
