    Abstract: Provided is a double crosslinked sodium alginate/polyvinyl alcohol composite nanofiltration membrane, including: a porous polymer support; and a sodium alginate/polyvinyl alcohol blend coating layer formed on the porous polymer support and having a first crosslinking structure formed by complexation with divalent metal ions and a second crosslinking structure formed by acetalization with aldehyde groups. The double crosslinked sodium alginate/polyvinyl alcohol composite nanofiltration membrane disclosed herein not only shows excellent chlorine resistance but also has improved water permeation flux and salt rejection ratio, and thus may be manufactured in the form of a spirally wound type membrane module and applied to a water treatment system in which it may be utilized for an actual nanofiltration separation process.

    Abstract: Terrestrial mobile wireless network capacity may be maximized subject to an interference constraint imposed by a protected station of another wireless network in a shared band. Equipment of one or more users (UEs) may receive a calibrated beacon signal from the protected station prior to activating a transmitter of one or more wireless UEs. The one or more UEs may measure an isolation (path loss) value between the one or more UEs and protected station using the beacon signal, and dynamically adjust the transmit power of one or more wireless UEs to maintain aggregate interference received by the protected station below an “acceptable” value. The transmit power may be adjusted based on the measured isolation and based on the indicated receive activity, such that the wireless network may operate with no interference constraints imposed by the protected station when a non-active state is indicated.

    Abstract: A foam seating article includes a layer of molded foam surrounding a hollow shell made of hard plastic. A fabric covering encloses the shell and molded foam. The foam seating article can take the form of a chair, stool, sofa, chaise lounge, bench or Ottoman. The hollow shell can be formed using blow molding, injection molding or by capping both ends of a tube with disks. Air pressure inside the airtight hollow shell prevents the shell from collapsing inwards under the weight of an occupant. Alternatively, the hollow shell of the seating article can be accessed through a removable lid. The seating article includes no wood or metal. The layer of molded foam includes sections of different foam types, such as high density (HD) foam, memory foam and latex foam. Molding foam around a hard plastic shell is simpler and less costly than making conventional metal or wood framed furniture.

    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a needle including a wall structure, a cutting edge and a blunt contour. The needle advantageously can be used to deliver a sensor (such as a glucose or other analyte sensor) through an outer skin layer and into a sensor depth in a less invasive way than prior art needles. The size of the cutting edge is balanced against a portion of the distal wall structure that has blunt contours. Thus, the needle is capable of cutting the more durable outer skin layer (first phase) and then progressively stretching open the cut for further advancement into the subcutaneous layer (second phase). When the needle is sufficiently advanced, it is retracted leaving the sensor in a desired position. Early testing has shown a reduction of “dip and recover” from glucose sensors delivered using the needle.

    Abstract: A seat cushion extension apparatus for a vehicle seat includes an extension unit slidable from a front end portion of a seat frame in a vehicle to a position disposed forwards of the front end portion of the seat frame, locking units for locking the extension unit with respect to the seat frame at a locking position, and allowing the extension unit to be slidable such that the extension unit protrudes forwards of the seat frame at a release position, and a lever for controlling the locking units between the locking position and the release position. The extension unit is supported by guide shafts to be movable forwards and rearwards in housings fixed to the seat frame. The guide shafts are locked in the housings at the locking position and are movable with respect to the seat frame at the release position.
