  • Patent number: 10944266
Abstract: A method of suppressing frequency deviations in a power grid relative to a desired frequency behaviour, in particular at hour crossings, wherein an energy storage is connected to the grid, includes: monitoring frequency in the grid relative to the desired frequency behaviour, to determine detected frequency deviations; comparing detected frequency deviations with a threshold; if detected frequency deviations exceed the threshold, deploying the storage to charge therein energy from the grid or to discharge energy therefrom into the grid; and setting a variable threshold. A corresponding system includes: a connection to a power grid; an energy storage selectively connectable to the connection; a frequency monitor connected to the connection; and a control to configured to selectively deploy the energy storage in accordance with the method.

  • Patent number: 10514082
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a flywheel system (1), comprising a ring-shaped flywheel rotor (3), arranged on a rotation axis (7); and a substantially cylindrical casing (2), enveloping the flywheel rotor (3) at least in a radial direction to contain the flywheel (3) in case of a calamity. The flywheel system (1) further exhibits the feature that the casing (2) comprises and having at least one inward protruding bumper (8) defining a variation from the circular shape in cross section of the casing wall (5) surrounding the flywheel rotor (3). The casing wall (5) may itself be circular and the bumper (8) can define a deviation relative to the circular shape thereof, to enhance deceleration of the flywheel rotor (3), if, in case of an accident or calamity, the flywheel rotor (3) comes loose.

  • Patent number: 4661660
Abstract: A cable drum 1 powered by an electric motor (2) for multi-conductor cables of heavy cross-section. To provide for insertion of the cable (4) into the cable drum (1) to be carried out without the use of slip-rings, twistable conductors (10) of high-elasticity are provided and are attached to rotate with the drum (1) at one end of a length L coaxial with the axis of rotation 1a of the drum (1). At the other end of the length L the conductors (10) are attached in a non-rotatable manner to a terminal box (15). The conductors (10) in the length L are guided between the points of attachment 12, 14 within a fixed tube (13). The terminal box (15) may be mounted on a slide 15a for movement in the axial direction of the tube and may be held under the tension of a spring (16) acting in the direction opposed to the movement. Alternatively the tube can be mounted at an angle to the axis of the rotation of the cable drum (1).

  • Patent number: 4140542
Abstract: A method and a device for recovering the various materials of a composite body having a restricted circumference as compared with its length, for example, cables; the object of the invention is to provide a possibility of recovering separately the constituents, particularly the metals, so that these metals maintain a high degree of purity and their original properties; the method is characterized by cutting the composite body along at least one transverse plane and at least one longitudinal plane and by subsequently sorting out the portions of materials reduced in size and separated from one another by the cutting operation; the device is characterized by a clipping apparatus for shortening the body into portions, by a splitting apparatus for cutting through each shortened portion at least along the longitudinal plane and by a sorting system, in which a degreasing section may be provided between the clipping section and the sorting section.
