  • Patent number: 5425736
Abstract: A ligature tool, of the type having a handle carrying an elongate body defining a fastening clip chamber in its forward part with ligature tubing holding and tensioning means carried on the body, provides improved crimping and tubing holding means. The crimping element provides a single pivotally mounted crimping dog that contacts a slit portion of an annular ligation tube clip carried in the fastening clip chamber and is movable into that chamber to crimp the sides defining the slit toward the adjacent inner surfaces of the annular clip body to fasten ligation material therebetween. The tubing holding means provide a body supporting similar laterally opposed tubing holders each having a headed vertical post about which the end portion of tubing is wound under tension before placement in an adjacent wedge-shaped slot for releasable fastening. The tubing holding body also provides tubing cutting structure.

  • Patent number: 5188637
Abstract: A metallic clip, to fasten two ends of latex surgical tubing under tension when used as a ligation element especially as in the castration of animals, provides a cylindrical tubular element defining an axially aligned slit through its periphery, with each side portion adjacent the slit defining angulated slots extending spacedly inwardly from a first end of the clip in a diverging fashion, to receive tubing ends. The clip defines an outwardly extending alignment protuberance inwardly from the second end of the clip in a position diametrically opposed to the peripheral slit. For use two latex surgical tubes are passed through the clip channel and one end portion of the tube is inserted in each slot. After tensioning the tubing, the clip is mechanically deformed, preferably by a tool created for such purpose, to bend each body portion between the slot and the slit inwardly to fasten each adjacent tube portion between that clip portion and the opposite side wall of the clip.

  • Patent number: 4691704
Abstract: A process is disclosed to castrate large mature animals by ligation. A tool for accomplishing the process provides a handle with an elongate body supportin a tightening rod that is moved along the body. The forward body portion defines an orifice that supports a grommet through which elastomeric surgical tubing is inserted with a forwardly extending loop. The rearward portions of the tubing are releasably engaged in the tightening structure which is moved to create tension upon the looped portion and any animal body part carried within that loop. The tool body provides crimping structure that crimps a grommet about the ends of the tensioned surgical tube to fasten it when properly positioned.
