    Abstract: A simple one piece device, herein referred to as an unitary diversionary-tubing hanger, or UDTH, for attachment to a wellhead that functions as a tubing hanger, a diverter of flow from the vertical to the horizontal or visa versa, and a securing device for a removable vertical seal plug and a recoverable emergency energizable vertical rod seal. The UDTH simplifies wellhead completion by eliminating all valves in the vertical string. The UDTH can be landed directly in some wellheads. The UDTH also simplifies remedial treatment of the wellhead and can be installed or removed from most wellheads in less than one hour. The UDTH can also pass through a blowout protector attached to a wellhead. A recoverable energizable vertical rod seal, installable in the vertical passageway of the UDTH, provides an emergency pump rod seal in a wellhead completed for rod pumping, both reciprocating and rotating.

    Abstract: A retrievable sealing plug coil tubing suspension device for supporting coil tubing which supports a motor-pump assembly deployed at operating well depth in a well. The coil tubing houses the power cable connected to the motor of the motor-pump assembly. A diversionary member connected to a wellhead assembly supports the device. The device locks on the coil tubing and is installable and retrievable through a blowout preventor ("BOP") by reeling enough of the coil tubing out of the wellhead assembly so that the device can be unlocked from the coil tubing. After removing the device from the coil tubing, the coil tubing can be completely rewound on a reel and the motor-pump assembly serviced if desired.     Abstract: A wellhead assembly having a tubing hanger for supporting a tubing string and a diversionary block with a bonnet part, the tubing hanger and bonnet part having aligned holes for transmitting fluid through the tubing string or for receiving a pump rod. The tubing hanger and bonnet part have additional aligned holes, and the wellhead assembly includes sealing plugs, electrical cable connectors and other parts adapted to be interchangably mounted in the additional holes so that the wellhead can be reversibly converted to suit it for service in different injection and production modes of operation without having to rework the wellhead assembly or substitute another wellhead assembly for it.

A single valve tree is provided, and is removably mounted on any one of a group of wells provided with diversionary spool assemblies only when a particular well in that group requires maintenance or remedial work to be performed thereon.Each diversionary spool assembly includes a rigid body having at least first and second passages therein, which body is operatively mounted on a tubing hanger supporting casing head for the first passage to be vertically aligned with a vertical bore in the tubing hanger and a tubing string that depends from the latter.The first passage in the normal operation of the well has a plug removably and sealingly disposed therein.

    Abstract: A pivotally adjustable, low profile, top entry, electrical transmission assembly for removably effecting electrical communication through a tubing hanger between an above ground electric power supply cable and an electric power receiving cable that extends upwardly from a submersible unit in a bore hole. The assembly may be removed from the tubing hanger for maintenance without removing the tubing hanger from the wellhead in which it is disposed. The portion of the assembly above the wellhead is of angled structure to minimize the height thereof which is of importance on oil islands where wells are closely spaced and drilling and maintenance equipment must be periodically moved over the wells. The assembly due to being pivotally adjustable permits the power supply cable associated therewith to extend from the wellhead in a desired direction.

    Abstract: A top entry electrical transmission safety assembly for removably effecting electrical communication through a tubing hanger, between an above ground electric power supply cable and an electric power receiving cable that extends upwardly from a motor driven submersible pump in a bore hole. The electric power supply portion of the assembly may be removed from the tubing hanger without removing the latter from a supporting well head. The supporting well head has a bonnet removably secured thereto through which the electric power supply cable extends, which bonnet not only serves its normal function, but acts in a safety capacity to prevent the electrical transmission assembly being uncoupled inadvertently to create an electric arc or spark in a hazardous potentially explosive area such as on an off shore platform or island.

    Abstract: A packing supporting piston assembly removably securable to an end section of a production casing of a geothermal well, which end section is disposed above a well head. The piston assembly when so mounted has packing in abutting sealing contact with the end section of the production casing and also has packing that is in slidable sealing contact with the interior surface of the expansion spool. The piston assembly is of such structure that the pressures exerted by the packing on the end section of the casing and on the interior surface of the expansion spool are independently adjustable to desired magnitudes. The degree of pressure exerted by the packing on the interior surface of the expansion spool is adjustable after the packing has been disposed within the confines of the spool. The piston assembly in a preferred form includes a circumferentially extending high temperature resisting grease seal situated within the confines of the piston assembly.

    Abstract: A well head assembly that terminates on the upper end in a horizontal mounting flange on which the flange of a christmas tree array of valves may be sealingly mounted to control the flow of fluid from the well associated therewith, and the well head assembly including slidably engageable first and second electrical conducting cartridges below the mounting flange for supplying electric power to a number of insulated electrical conductors that extend downwardly in the well to an electric motor driven down hole pump or other electrical apparatus. The positioning of the christmas tree array of valves at a minimum height relative to the well head is most desirable in those situations where a number of wells are drilled close together, such as on an off shore island, and equipment must be periodically moved over the array of valves for maintenance or drilling purposes.

    Abstract: A hydraulically operated assembly that may be removably secured to the well head of an oil well to concurrently raise a tubing hanger that has a tubing string supported in either a centered or offset position therefrom to an elevation where replacements or repairs may be made to electrical components including the lower electrical connector. The tubing string upon being lifted is moved to a centered position in the blow out preventer to permit the latter to be closed to gain control of the well if necessary. The assembly eliminates the necessity of moving a rig over the well to service the electrical components therein.

    Abstract: An assembly for cleaning deposited minerals from the interior passages of first and second axially aligned tubular laterals that extend outwardly in opposite directions from a geothermal well head and removably support first and second gate valves from the free ends thereof. The cleaning of the passages in the tubular laterals as well as passages in the first and second gate valves may be conducted with the assembly without killing the well. The assembly also permits a third vertically disposed gate valve on the well head to be removed for repair and maintenance purposes without killing the well, and this is also possible with the first and second gate valves.

    Abstract: A valve supporting tubular assembly capable of being mounted on a geothermal well head, with the tubular assembly of such structure that an internal plug that supports resilient packers and has circumferentially extending teeth defined thereon may be removably locked in a first position to seal the interior of the tubular assembly above the outlets to the valves, the plug may also be moved longitudinally in the tubular assembly to scrape solids deposited on the interior surface thereof by geothermal fluids, and the plug may also be moved to a second position to pack off the interior of the tubular assembly below the valve outlets to permit the valves to be moved or maintenance work performed thereon without shutting down the geothermal well. In addition, the plug is provided with means to equalize the pressure above and below the plug in the tubular assembly to permit the plug and components situated thereabove to be removed from the tubular assembly.

    Abstract: A geothermal well head assembly that is removably mounted on the upper flanged end of a surface string of casing that is submitted in the upper portion of a bore hole that extends to the heated zone. A second string of casing is concentrically disposed in the first casing and extends to the heated zone, which second string of casing tends to expand and contract longitudinally to the first string. A rigid ring is disposed in the annulus space between the first and second strings of casing adjacent the ground surface and first and second resilient seals in pressure contact with the interior surface of the first casing and exterior surface of the second casing. Means are provided for periodically and independently adjusting the compression on these seals from the exterior of the assembly without shutting down the geothermal well, which shut down is undesirable as possibly having an adverse effect on future production from the well.
