  • Patent number: 6726250
Abstract: A pretensioner for a safety-belt includes an elongate housing (1) defining a chamber (2) and a unit (3) for movement along the housing. The unit has an end element in the form of a piston (4) which is provided with balls (5) received in a groove (6) which enables the piston to move only in one direction. The piston is connected by a resilient spring (7) to a connector element (8) of a form corresponding to that of a piston (4). The connector element is connected (12) to one end of a wire (11) which is connected to part of a safety-belt. A peg (17) maintains the spring (7) compressed. When the pretensioner is actuating gas from a gas generator it is applied to the piston (4) moving the whole unit (3) within the housing whilst braking the peg (17). At the end of the movement the piston (4) cannot move back towards its initial position. Any subsequent slack appearing within the safety-belt is taken up by expansion of the spring (7).

  • Patent number: 6672619
Abstract: A safety device for use in a motor vehicle includes a restraining element in the form of a net (4) initially stored within a housing (3) extending across the entire upper edge of a windscreen (2). Pull cords (5, 6) attached to the edges of the net extend downwardly past guides (7, 8) located adjacent the lower edges of the windscreen to a centrally located drive mechanism (9). Further pull cords (10, 11) extend from positions more towards the central part of the lower edge of the net, and initially extend around the outer periphery of the windscreen being retained by a yieldable mechanism. The pull cords (10, 11) pass guides (14, 15) located adjacent the lower edge of the windscreen (2) and thus to the drive mechanism (9). The drive mechanism applies such a tension to the pull cords (5, 6, 10, 11) that the net is drawn to a position in which it extends tautly across the windscreen (2) in response to an accident situation.

  • Patent number: 5471717
Abstract: A tongue forming part of a safety belt is provided with two apertures adapted to receive the safety belt. The tongue has a portion adapted to be received and retained by a buckle forming part of a safety belt system. The tongue carries a clamping element adapted to be moved, by pressure applied to the clamping by the safety belt, to a clamping position in which the clamping element clamps part of a safety belt locking means are provided movable between a locking position and a release position. When the locking means are in the locking position the clamping element is prevented from moving to the clamping position. However, when the locking means are in the release position the clamping element may move to the clamping position.

  • Patent number: 4892331
Abstract: A motorized height adjuster for adjusting the height of the pillar loop in vehicle safety belts comprises an elongate bar (10) having a substantially U-shaped cross-section; a threaded spindle (14) rotatably mounted in the bar; a motor (18) for driving the spindle; and a carrier (19) for the pillar loop (20) adapted to be moved in the bar by the rotation of the spindle. The bar is adapted to be attached to the car body at the seat for which the seat belt is intended by means of a first and a second screw means. The screw means are positioned close to the different ends of the bar and have a threaded portion and a main portion. The first screw means (23) has a main portion which is designed to be brought into engagement with the bar (10), when the threaded portion has been screwed into the car body. The main portion is provided with a recess through which a driving shaft (17) between the motor (18) and the spindle (14) can pass freely.

  • Patent number: 4527313
Abstract: The invention relates to an arrangement in a loop fitting or locking tongue for retractor-type safety belts, forming a slot (13) for the passage of the belt strap and reorientation of the path of the strap over an edge of the slot. The loop fitting or locking tongue is coated with a layer (11) of plastic material, and an edge lining (14) of another plastic material than said plastic layer and having low-friction properties is mounted as a separate element on said edge. The edge lining is let into the surface of the plastic layer, and hook-shaped marginal portions (15) of the lining engage shoulders (16) formed by the plastic layer at the front and rear sides of the loop fitting or locking tongue.

  • Patent number: 4266325
Abstract: A receiving part for a safety belt for vehicles, wherein the band of the safety belt has a disc shaped coupling tongue which can be introduced in between two disc shaped guiding plates, and wherein the receiving part has a locking body, which, when the coupling tongue and the receiving part are coupled together, holds the coupling tongue and moreover is movable in a direction transverse to the guiding plates. A wedge shaped operating member is displaceable along the outside of at least one of the guiding plates with the wedge angle of the operating member being formed between the outside of the guiding plate and a side of the operating member facing away from the same, the locking body having shoulders, which extend along the outside of the guiding plate and which rest on the outer wedge side of the operating member with supporting or sliding surfaces extended in the direction of movement of the operating member.
