  • Patent number: 5302060
Abstract: A cutting insert includes a cutting edge extending obliquely relative to a center line of the insert. A chip breaking recess is spaced inwardly from the cutting edge and extends parallel hereto. A drill tool contains three inserts situated along a common diameter. The center insert has a cutting edge radially overlapping the cutting edges of the other two inserts. Each of the cutting edges of the other two inserts extends axially rearwardly and radially outwardly.

  • Patent number: 5032049
Abstract: The invention relates to an indexable cutting insert for face milling of engine blocks of cast iron. The insert has a free surface and a clearance surface and a cutting edge extending peripherally about the insert. The corners of the insert have a relatively large radius and therefore the setting angle gets close to zero degrees during machining of the engine block when the insert gets close to the border line of the work piece. The free surface and the clearance surface enclose an acute angle and therefore the insert has a positive cutting geometry. A land is provided between the free surface and the cutting edge. The land has a width increasing towards each insert corner.

  • Patent number: 4938638
Abstract: A milling cutter for chip machining is equipped with adjustable cutting inserts. The milling cutter comprises a tool body having a plurality of peripheral recesses. Each recess is adapted to receive a cutting insert, a support element for defining a support surface against which the insert abuts, an adjustment element for adjusting the position of the cutting insert in a first direction, and a wedge for securing the insert. The adjustment element is threadedly connected to the support element for rotation relative thereto when adjusting the insert. The support element could also include a rotatable portion for adjusting the insert in a second direction.

  • Patent number: 4893969
Abstract: A cutting insert for chip removing machining, preferably for milling, includes a rake face and a clearance face. A cutting edge is arranged at the line of intersection of those faces. The rake face comprises at least two adjacent, elongated ridges which extend along at least a part of the cutting edge. A first ridge connects to the cutting edge. A second of the ridges is arranged to become active after wear of the first ridge. The first ridge becomes worn to a substantial degree before the second ridge is activated.
