  • Publication number: 20080062893
Abstract: A technique for supplying a data object to a user of a communication device is described. The technique comprises the step of receiving a call or session request from a first communication device seeking to initiate a call or session with a second communication device. Next, the technique determines whether the second communication device has authorized the receipt of calls from or sessions with the first communication device. The technique then establishes or permits the call or session between the first communication device and the second communication if the first communication device is authorized. Alternatively, the technique transfers a data object to the first communication device if the first communication device is not authorized.

  • Publication number: 20070149170
Abstract: A method of authenticating a portable mobile communications device for use on a computer/media network using SIM data associated with the portable mobile communications device is described. The method comprises sending SIM data from the portable mobile communications device to a mobile service provider authentication server on the mobile service provider network. The received SIM data is authenticated the using the mobile service provider's authentication server. The authenticated SIM data and an IP address are then sent to a computer/media network. A second authentication procedure is performed on the received portable mobile communications device SIM data from the mobile service provider network on the computer/media network. If successful, a hole in a firewall on the computer/media network is opened that will allow data exchanges with the portable mobile communications device using the IP address included with the authenticated SIM data received from the mobile service provider network.

  • Publication number: 20070143799
Abstract: A mechanism for displaying gap filler data on a display of a portable mobile communications device (PMCD) receiving a mobile broadcast via a mobile broadcast receiver during a time delay occurring as a result of switching from a first channel to a second channel is presented. A PMCD processor detects when a channel switch request is initiated via a user interface. This causes the mobile broadcast receiver to switch from the first channel to the second channel. A media player application receives a signal from a mobile broadcast device signal processor that a channel switch is occurring. The media player application retrieves gap filler data to be displayed during the time delay needed to complete the channel switch. The media player application subsequently receives a signal that the channel switch has completed and discontinues displaying the gap filler data so that the display can display the newly tuned second channel.

  • Publication number: 20070111717
Abstract: A method and apparatus for operating an electronic program guide on a portable mobile communications device is presented. The portable mobile communications device is part of a larger network that is communicable with a mobile radio access network (MRAN) and capable of receiving broadcasts from a mobile television service provider. The portable mobile communications device displays a list of programs available and accepts input that selects one of the programs. This causes a display of the list of options that can be applied to the selected program. The portable mobile communications device then accepts input and performs the selected option for the selected program. The list of options includes an option to record the selected program locally, remotely, or on a home personal video recorder (PVR). In addition, list of options that can be applied to the selected program includes an option to set a reminder for the selected program.

  • Publication number: 20070099560
Abstract: A portable mobile communications device for altering the destination of mobile television programs broadcast by a mobile television service provider includes a mobile television device, a processor running a mobile television redirect application communicable with the mobile television service provider, and a user interface for controlling the mobile television device and the mobile television redirect application such that mobile television broadcast programs can be redirected to an alternate device at higher definitions in response to input received by the user interface and sent to the mobile television service provider. The alternate device can include a home media server or a computer coupled to and communicable with the mobile television service provider via the Internet.

  • Publication number: 20070093275
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of displaying, on a secondary display device, a channel of a mobile television broadcast comprised of multiple channels of content data that was sent to a primary portable mobile communications device. A mobile television broadcast is received by a mobile television receiver in the portable mobile communications device. The user inputs or selects a channel to view on a secondary display device. The mobile television receiver signal processor unpacks the selected channel content data intended for the secondary display device and forwards the data to a secondary short range wireless transceiver within the portable mobile communications device. The selected channel content data is then sent to the secondary display device so that it can be decoded and rendered on the secondary display device.

  • Publication number: 20060013130
Abstract: A data link, e.g., an audio and/or video data link, is established from a data source, such as an audio and/or video encoder, to a data recipient via an adjustable synchronous radio channel, such as an extended Synchronous Connection-Oriented (eSCO) channel between first and second Bluetoothâ„¢ devices. A quality of the data link is determined. A transmission interval and a retransmission criterion of the adjustable synchronous radio channel and an error correction coding of the data link are adjusted responsive to the determined quality of the data link to, for example, maintain a fixed information transfer rate over the data link. The transmission interval and retransmission criterion of the adjustable synchronous radio channel and an error correction coding of the data link may be adjusted by communicating channel parameters between the first and second devices over the radio channel to adjust the transmission interval and the retransmission criterion of the adjustable synchronous radio channel.

  • Publication number: 20050207350
Abstract: Error control is provided in an ad hoc network having an asynchronous communication mode and a synchronous communication mode. A packet including a header and a payload is received. The header includes a header error check (HEC) computed based on the header. An error indicator is calculated based on the received header. The received payload is forwarded if the calculated error indicator indicates an error free header. The header, only in the synchronous communication mode, is modified based on an error correction table when the calculated error indicator corresponds to a value in the error correction table and the received payload is forwarded. A received packet error is detected in the synchronous communication mode when the calculated error indicator indicates an error in the header and the calculated error indicator does not correspond to a value in the error correction table.
