  • Patent number: 5967351
Abstract: A tamper-indicating closure is used with an associated container having a finish including an external thread formation thereon, and an annular locking ring located axially under the thread formation. The closure includes a closure cap having a circular top wall portion and an annular skirt portion depending from the top wall portion. An internal thread is formed in the skirt and defines a skirt wall plane. The closure includes an annular tamper-indicating band depending from the cap that is detachably connected to the cap by a plurality of circumferentially spaced, tapered, frangible connectors extending between the band and the cap. The connectors taper to define a region adjacent to a juncture of the connector and the band having a cross-section that is smaller than a cross-section at a region of the connector adjacent to a juncture of the connector and the closure cap.

  • Patent number: 5950849
Abstract: A tamper-indicating closure is used with an associated container having a finish having an external thread formation thereon, and an annular locking ring located axially under the thread formation. The closure includes a closure cap having a circular top wall portion defining an outermost edge and a top wall extension region. The closure cap includes an annular skirt portion depending from the top wall portion inwardly of the outermost edge. An internal thread is formed in the skirt and defines a skirt wall plane. The closure includes a plurality of ribs extending from the top wall extension region to define an enlarged grasping region to comfortably fit a user's hand. An annular tamper-indicating band depends from the cap and is detachably connected to the cap by a plurality of circumferentially spaced, frangible connectors extending between the band and at least some of the ribs. The band includes an internal surface configured for engaging the locking ring and separates the band from the skirt portion.

  • Patent number: 5853097
Abstract: A closure for use with an associated container having a finish with an external securing member formed thereon, includes a closure cap having an enlarged top wall portion defining an outermost edge and an annular skirt portion depending from the top wall portion inwardly of the outermost edge. The skirt portion has an outer wall and an inner wall having an internal securing member engageable with the container external securing member. The closure cap includes a plurality of parallel, spaced apart, tapered ribs. At least some of the ribs extend between the top wall portion and the skirt outer wall. Each rib defines an outer edge and tapers inwardly or thins from the closure cap to the outer edge to define a region adjacent to a juncture of each rib and the closure cap having a cross-sectional area that is greater than a cross-sectional area at the outer edge of each respective rib. The ribs can taper in one or more directions. The ribs are separated from one another by parallel recessed regions.

  • Patent number: 5806699
Abstract: A venting closure for use with an associated container includes a closure cap having a circular top wall portion and a depending annular skirt portion. The closure is used with a pressurized container having a threaded neck portion defining a land surface at the top thereof. The closure includes a liner therein adjacent and in spaced relation to the top wall, which liner is positioned between the top wall portion and the land surface and defines a pressure release region with the top wall portion. The top wall portion includes an outwardly extending annular bead-like protecting element having a depending inner wall and a contiguous outer wall. The inner wall is oriented generally transverse to a top wall plane. A flexible portion having a piercing element extending inwardly therefrom toward the liner is positioned centrally of the annular protecting bead and is movable so that piercing element contacts and fractures the liner to release pressure from the container.

  • Patent number: 5792414
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a container, wherein less material is required to produce the container, the container has a more uniform wall thickness, and malformations around the neck of the container are significantly reduced. The method includes forming plastic into a parison and blowing it into a mold having a tapered neck portion and a body portion, which join to form an annular corner for contacting the parison. A blow pin blows air into the mold and parison, causing the parison to expand and conform to the inner contour of the mold. The taper of the neck portion and the annular corner thereby formed, cool the plastic at that point and more uniformly form the parison into the container, the amount of material wasted and required in manufacturing the container is substantially reduced, as is malformations and warping which usually occur about the neck of the finished container.

  • Patent number: 5755346
Abstract: A tamper indicating closure for use with an associated container includes a closure cap having a circular top wall portion, and a depending annular skirt portion depending from the top wall portion. The skirt portion has an internal thread formed therein adapted to threadedly engage a thread formed on an outer surface of the container. The container includes a an annular interference ring located axially under the thread formation. The closure includes a separable, annular tamper indicating band depending from the skirt portion. The band is detachably connected to the skirt portion by a plurality of circumferentially spaced, frangible bridge-like connectors extending between the skirt portion and the band. The band includes first and second axially spaced apart, inwardly extending camming projections extending inwardly therefrom.

  • Patent number: 5435467
Abstract: A dispenser for a container having a pouring spout being integral with a spout portion and being disposed a retaining wall. The pouring spout of the dispenser is configured to allow orientation specific stacking whereby a spout portion is stacked onto a previously formed spout portion to form a stack of spout portions being aligned in the same direction. The dispenser includes an integral flow opening formed through an underside of the floor between the retaining wall and the pouring spout. The flow opening is coplaner with a horizontal plane through a juncture of the neck and the shoulder of the container and provides a channel through which the contents of the container can flow unobstructedly between the shoulder of the container and the lower end of the spout portion, which diminishes the amount of residual contents left within the container.

  • Patent number: 5271512
Abstract: A molded tamper-evident closure for use with a container having a neck. The closure includes a generally planar top portion with an outer peripheral edge, an annular skirt depending from the peripheral edge and having a lower edge margin, an annular breakaway band having a top surface and a bottom surface, the top surface including a plurality of spaced frangible bridge formations integrally joined to the lower edge margin of the skirt. An outer surface of the breakaway band is provided with a plurality of support formations such as gusset members for preventing distortion of the breakaway band as the closure is applied to the container. The closure may also be provided with a plurality of specially configured recess formations for engaging ratchet formations on the neck of the container to provide an anti-backoff feature.
