    Abstract: A system and method for providing community interest messages to subscribers to broadcast satellite services. A connection is established between a subscriber's satellite receiver and a message center. The message center downloads messages to the receiver. The receiver then writes these to the overlay display buffer which causes them to be displayed on the television display in addition to whatever video signal is being displayed.
