  • Patent number: 11979816
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a user equipment (UE) dynamically adjusting a non-access stratum (NAS) timer. Specifically, the UE may determine operation in a wideband and support of an extended coverage (EC) restriction. The UE may further identify a duration of a non-access stratum (NAS) timer based on determining operation in the wideband and the EC restriction. The UE may further transmit an access request message to a network entity to trigger a mobility management procedure. The UE may further receive an acceptance message from the network entity indicating an unrestricted or restricted status of the EC restriction. The UE may further apply the duration to the NAS timer based on the acceptance message indicating the unrestricted or restricted status of the EC restriction received from the network entity or a history of EC restrictions of a public land mobile network (PLMN) in a defined geographic area.

In some aspects, a network node (e.g., a session management function (SMF)) may receive policy and charging control (PCC) rules that include control information associated with a non-integrated aggregation (NIA) protocol data unit (PDU) session requested by a user equipment (UE). The SMF may communicate, to the UE, one or more access traffic steering, switching, and splitting (ATSSS) rules derived from the PCC rules, wherein the one or more ATSSS rules are for controlling traffic steering, switching, and splitting associated with the NIA PDU session in an uplink direction. The network node may communicate, to a user plane function (UPF), N4 interface rules derived from the PCC rules, wherein the N4 interface rules are for controlling traffic steering, switching, and splitting associated with the NIA PDU session in a downlink direction. Numerous other aspects are described.

  • Publication number: 20240048632
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. The described techniques support authentication and authorization (AA) for various services provided by a network and supported by a user equipment (UE). A UE may transmit a container to a first network entity requesting AA for a first service. The container may include an indicator of the first service, and the indicator may indicate or distinguish the first service from multiple services. The first network entity may query a third network entity based on the indicator of the first service to discover a second network entity supporting AA for the first service. The first network entity may then transmit an indicator of the first service to the second network entity, and the second network entity may select a fourth network entity supporting AA for the first service.

  • Publication number: 20240015811
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-readable media, for determining whether a user equipment (UE) and a base station of a radio access network (RAN) configured to operate according to compatible variants of a standardized radio access technology (RAT). In some cases, a standard development organization for a geographic territory may modify a standardized RAT in a way that creates a new variant (also referred to as a forked deviation) of the RAT. Depending on what changes are made, the new variant may be compatible or incompatible with the original standardized RAT. This disclosure enables the UE to determine according to which variant of the RAT the RAN is configured to operate and manage connections to the RAN based whether the UE and the RAN are configured to operate according to compatible variants of the RAT.

  • Publication number: 20240015643
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatuses for network selection in a service interruption scenario. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive an indication that a condition is associated with a first network to which the UE is registered. The UE may perform a network selection procedure based at least in part on receiving the indication. In some aspects, the network selection procedure includes a legacy network selection procedure and is associated with roaming information received by or configured on the UE. In some aspects, a UE may receive an indication that a condition is associated with a network to which the UE is registered. The UE may provide, for display and based at least in part on receiving the indication, network selection information associated with a set of networks. The network selection information may include an indication that a given network accommodates inbound roamers.

  • Publication number: 20230422075
Abstract: Aspects relate to location services in a wireless communication network. A first wireless communication device may send capability information to the network indicating that the first wireless communication device supports a location services protocol but does not support location services notifications. Upon receiving this capability information, the network may refrain from performing a privacy check procedure directed to the first wireless communication device. As another example, the network may refrain from performing a privacy check procedure directed to the first wireless communication device based on a determination that the first wireless communication device performs a relay function (or otherwise does not support location services notifications or user interaction). As yet another example, the network may determine, based on a privacy profile of the first wireless communication device, that the first wireless communication device is a type of device that is not associated with privacy checks.

  • Publication number: 20230403620
Abstract: Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a source node may forward a first message between a user equipment (UE) and a core node via a distributed node, wherein the first message is a non-access stratum message. The source node may transmit, to a target node, a second message associated with a migration of the distributed node from the source node to the target node, wherein the second message identifies the forwarding of the first message. Numerous other aspects are described.

  • Publication number: 20230403627
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. An integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node may have a radio resource control (RRC) connection with a first central unit of a first network node. The IAB node may receive an indication that the IAB node is to establish an IAB node-to-central unit connection (e.g., a F1 detour connection) with a second central unit of a second network node via the RRC connection between the IAB node and the first network node. The indication may be associated with a handover between the first network node to the second network node, where the first network node may the source node and the second network node may be the target node, or vice versa. The IAB node may communicate, with the second network node, via the IAB node-to-central unit connection using the RRC connection between the IAB node and the first network node.

  • Publication number: 20230370964
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment, UE, may identify (305) that the UE is not connected with a first network to which the UE subscribes, and identify a fallback configuration (310). The UE may determine (315), based on the fallback configuration, a second network of one or more other networks with which the UE is to connect. The UE may attempt (320) to connect with the second network based on the fallback configuration and the UE not being connected with the first network. In some cases, a base station of a network may establish a connection with UEs based on receiving registration messages from the UEs in response to transmitting an indication that the network is available as a fallback network, identify a congestion level of the network and switch to a non-subscriber rejection mode in which the base station rejects connection with non-subscriber UEs.

  • Publication number: 20230362627
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. To communicate using non-restricted radio capabilities, a user equipment (UE) may transmit a UE capability message to a network (e.g., via a base station) that indicates a set of radio capabilities that the UE may use to communicate. The network may identify subscription information for the UE and may determine one or more restricted radio capabilities of the set of radio capabilities based on the subscription information for the UE. The network may transmit a message to the UE that includes a radio capability modification indication indicating the one or more restricted radio capabilities and a UE radio capability identifier corresponding to the subset of radio capabilities of the set of radio capabilities that are not restricted. The UE may receive the message, identify the restricted radio capabilities, and communicate with the network using the subset of non-restricted radio capabilities.

  • Publication number: 20230336985
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A communication device, otherwise known as a user equipment (UE) may configure an indication associated with network slice information. The UE may determine, based on the indication, that the network slice information is subject to network slice-specific authentication and authorization (NSSAA). Additionally or alternatively, the UE may determine an authentication credential associated with network slice information, and transmit, to an access and mobility management function (AMF), an indication related to an availability of an authentication credential associated with the network slice information. The UE may access a network slice associated with the network slice information based on the NSSAA of the network slice information.
