  • Patent number: 10536991
Abstract: Disclosed is a safety circuit for disrupting power to a heating element of an appliance to be powered through a solid state switch (Q1), typically a triac, from an AC power source (V1) having a positive half cycle and a negative half cycle for delivering power. A low resistance condition is sensed by detecting either the current through, or voltage across, the solid state switch during the positive half cycle and the negative half cycle of the AC power line, when the solid state AC switch is not actuated. A fault signal is generated to interrupt power to the heating element, preferably by a crowbar circuit opening a fuse, whenever the low resistance condition is detected.

  • Patent number: 8772679
Abstract: Methods and system for controlling a heater conductor in a heating element including a sensor conductor separated from the heater conductor by an NTC layer. The heating element is coupled to a control circuit and the flow of electricity from a direct current source through the circuit is controlled such that a change of the resistance of the NTC layer is indicative of the temperature of the heater conductor. This resistance is detected based on a time or amplitude analysis and based thereon, a heating mode of the heater conductor is controlled. In a variation, the circuit is operated in a two-period measurement mode wherein the energy transferred through the NTC layer in one period is equal and opposite to the energy transferred through the NTC layer in the other period.

  • Publication number: 20070194800
Abstract: A circuit for measuring an unknown capacitance includes a reference capacitor having a known capacitance, an oscillator timing circuit, a variable frequency oscillator and a microcontroller. The oscillator timing circuit includes switches which selectively couple the unknown capacitance and the reference capacitor to the oscillator timing circuit. The variable frequency oscillator generates time varying signals which vary in frequency proportionally to the unknown capacitance and reference capacitor selectively coupled to the oscillator timing circuit. The microcontroller receives the time varying signals from the oscillator, and compares the periods of the time varying signals to determine the value of the unknown capacitance.

  • Publication number: 20070182632
Abstract: The present invention is a new multifunctional low-cost solution for performing measurements and positioning in construction sites and automatically extracting a three-dimensional virtual model, plans, elevations and sections drawings based on these measurements. The preferred embodiment of the present invention consists of a field beacon or a set of field beacons, spread around the measured area, communicating by omnidirectional signals with at least one central signal collector, which communicates with a computer. Dedicated computer software performs the spatial calculations and other applicable functions. The disclosed system is used for laying out axes and columns at the beginning stage of construction while ensuring the exact match of each mark to its planned position, and for quality and exactitude control of constructions or assembling. In addition the system may be used for locating and tracking objects in a predefined area and automatic directing of machinery to target points.

  • Publication number: 20050200317
Abstract: A dimmer control system has a communication control loop that connects a master unit in series with a plurality of remote units, and it is superimposed in series on the dimmer load line so as to allow two-way communication between the master unit and remote units without affecting the operation of the load. Communications from the master to the remote units are encoded in loop current fluctuations, whereas communications from any remote to the master unit are encoded in loop voltage fluctuations. The master unit has a switched power supply, for use during normal LOAD ON operation, in tandem with a capacitive power supply, for use during LOAD OFF operation of the control units so as to minimize hum. The master unit power supply circuit provides an output rail voltage comprised of a reference voltage for the load superimposed with a control loop voltage for the voltage drop across the series-connected remote units.
