  • Patent number: 7081885
Abstract: A system for audio- or video-enhancement of books or other reading material includes a substantially transparent guide sheet, a pointing device, and a broadcast device. The guide sheet is configured to be placed over or under and aligned with a selected page. The user touches the pointing device on the guide sheet or the page, and the broadcast device determines the position of contact, and provides audio and/or video output corresponding to contents of the book at the contacted location. The system may include an active guide sheet and passive pointing device, or an active pointing device and passive guide sheet, or both an active pointing device and an active guide sheet.

  • Publication number: 20060129632
Abstract: Systems, methodologies, media, and other embodiments associated with remote content rendering for mobile viewing are described. One exemplary system embodiment includes an identifying logic that identifies content elements for which a rendering request is to be made to a remote rendering server. The example system may also include a requesting logic that provides the rendering request to the remote rendering server and a receiving logic that receives back a rendered version of the content element from the remote rendering server in response to the rendering request. The example system may also include a distribution logic that distributes the rendered version of the content element to an output logic.

  • Patent number: 6915103
Abstract: A system for enhancement of books or other reading material includes an item of reading material, printed on a substrate having a substantially invisible, machine-readable coordinate grid. A pointing device is configured to detect the coordinate grid on the substrate when placed in proximity thereto. An output device receives input from the pointing device to determine the location of the pointing device relative to the substrate, and provides output corresponding to contents of the reading material at the location. The output may be in the form of audio and/or video.
