  • Publication number: 20030052009
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the electrocoating of relatively small components is disclosed. The apparatus includes a coating process unit, which is comprised of three component parts, which are defined as the process tank, the transfer system, and the electrode system. Each of the three component parts is integrated with a support structure. The process tank is a fluid-tight, open-top receptacle that holds the coating solution through which the parts are passed. The transfer system generally includes a conveyor chain and transfer media connected with the conveyor chain. The conveyor chain may be electrically insulated. The transfer media connects to the conveyor chain to form the continuous moving support surface onto which the parts are loaded, coated and are unloaded. The transfer media includes a support surface and electrical contact. The electrode system includes both an electrode and an electrode contact of opposite polarity.

  • Patent number: 5110440
Abstract: In a vehicle body processing apparatus, a process tank assembly comprises a plurality of process tanks each having a treatment liquid therein. A carrier supports the body in road position above the tanks. A rotating means rotates the carrier and the body between an upright position above the tanks and an inverted totally submerged position within the tank and then rotates back to the upright position for drainage into the tank. The carrier is separated from the body, cleaned, and returned overhead to the loading end of the apparatus. The liquid-processed body is transported in an inverted position through an oven.

  • Patent number: 4755273
Abstract: A cover especially adapted for use with electrodeposition coating tanks is disclosed for preventing contamination of the liquid coating material in the tank, reducing evaporation of coating liquid solvent from the tank, preventing condensate dripping and spoilage of parts within the tank, and providing easy access to the tank interior for maintenance purposes. The cover includes a curved configuration extending over the tank from the tank sides and at least one movable panel for access to the tank interior. The movable panel or panels are preferably curved to match the cover configuration and may be transparent for visibility into the tank without opening the cover.

  • Patent number: 4663014
Abstract: Electrodeposition coating apparatus is disclosed for charging and applying a liquid coating material, such as a water based resin solution, to oppositely charged workpieces with increased efficiency. The apparatus includes a tank constructed from hollow vertical, V-shaped columns, side panels extending therebetween and reinforcing members extending along the exterior. The tank includes a liquid level control weir and liquid circulation eductors and nozzles on its sides, ends and bottom for circulating the liquid coating material within the tank. Electrodes for electrically charging the coating liquid are recessed between the vertical, sidewall columns to minimize any flow disruption or turbulence within the tank while provided sufficient liquid contact for proper charging. A separate liquid recirculation tank is provided adjacent the main tank for collecting and pumping liquid which flows over the weir back to the liquid circulation system.

  • Patent number: 4284493
Abstract: A modular membrane box for use in an electrocoating system. The modular construction allows a number of cells to be assembled as a single unit as may be required by the tank dimensions. The anolyte supply and return lines, which are pressurized, and the membrane box assemblies and their controls are removably mounted on the tank. Provisions are made for easy and relatively inexpensive installation, inspection and maintenance of the membrane boxes, piping and controls.
