  • Publication number: 20140350475
Abstract: A hand operated medical pump is described including: at least one fluid inlet; at least one fluid outlet; a flexible pump bulb defining a pumping chamber which forms at least part of a pumping flow pathway; at least one directional valve which allows flow of fluid in a direction from the at least one inlet to the at least one outlet, but inhibits flow of fluid in a direction from the at least one outlet to the at least one inlet; and a bypass flow pathway from the at least one inlet to the at least one outlet which by-passes the at least one directional valve; and wherein the bypass flow pathway extends through the pump bulb.

  • Publication number: 20120089145
Abstract: A method of, and apparatus for, arthroplasty of a knee joint comprising obtaining a desired spacing of the femur from the tibia by inserting a spacer into the knee joint between the femur and the tibia. The spacer is used as a reference for securing a guide jig in position about the knee joint for guiding resection of one or both of the femur and tibia for fitting of tibial and/or femoral prostheses. A method of resecting the femur while moving the tibia through an arc of motion to remove bone to the desired depth, a method of determining the position of the guide jig, the guide jog, an alignment device and the spacer are also described.

  • Patent number: 6123710
Abstract: The invention comprises a method of reconstructing the anterior cruciate ligament in the right knee of a patient comprising the steps of forming a tendon graft of tendon, other soft tissue, ligament (including bone blocks if required), or artificial tendon; forming a hole into or through the lateral condyle of the patient's right femur from a point in the intercondylar notch therein, the hole extending anteriorly and laterally; forming a suitably positioned hole through the patient's right tibia opening at one end adjacent the medial tibial spine of the tibia; drawing one end of the tendon graft into the hole in the femur and simultaneously or sequentially drawing the other end of the tendon graft into the hole in the tibia; inserting the leading end of a suitable screw having a left handed thread into the hole in the femur from the intercondylar notch until the trailing end of the screw is at least adjacent he surface of the intercondylar notch; and after tensioning the tendon graft appropriately, securing t

  • Patent number: 5383878
Abstract: A surgical screw has a head being, at least in a portion, hemispherical. A smooth continuous join exists between the head and a shank of the screw, the head being of the same, or larger, diameter as the shank. To drive the screw a drive socket is provided concentrically within the head, and a cannulation is provided concentrically of the shank and it opens into the socket so as to allow the screw to be threaded along a guide wire or similar. The shank has a smooth or soft thread so as to provide an interlocking fixation of a bone end of a tendon graft within a prepared hole of a bone, but without damaging either bone structures. The hemispherical portion provides a smooth continuous curved surface over which a graft may flex and move without fatigue or suffering stress concentrations.
