  • Patent number: 5829610
Abstract: A tamper-evident closure is provided with a base for attachment to a container, and the base defines a discharge aperture. A lid is movable between a closed position and an open position with respect to the discharge aperture. A manually releasable latch holds the lid closed on the base. A tamper-indicating element is mounted adjacent the latch. In one form of the invention, the element has a removable part defining a tool. According to another aspect of the invention, the removable part of the element is broken away when the latch is operated. In yet another form of the invention, the element prevents operation of the latch until the removable part of the element is first removed.

  • Patent number: 5772076
Abstract: A dispensing closure which is particularly suited for hot fill packaging wherein vacuum conditions are present as well as the packaging of carbonated beverages wherein superatmospheric conditions are present. The dispensing closure includes a rotatable outercap that overlies, and is relatively moveable with respect to, an inner cap secured to a container mouth. The inner and/or outer cap can be integrally formed with a resilient thermoplastic gasket liner system that provides vacuum seals both between the inner or outer caps and container as well as between the inner and outer caps. The closure can be equipped with a tamper indicating band, preferably located at the base of the outer cap, which will separate from the outer cap when it is rotated and axially moved upwardly from the closed to the dispensing position.

  • Patent number: 5494174
Abstract: A removal resistant closure and container assembly is provided. The container defines an opening. The closure is applied to the container to occlude the opening. A first thread is defined by the container and extends at least partially around the opening from a leading end to a trailing end. A second thread is defined by the closure and extends at least partially around the closure form a leading end to a trailing end. A projection is defined adjacent one of the first and second threads. The projection and the one thread define a space between them which is less than the width of the other of the threads. Either the projection or the other thread, or both, are resilient to accommodate deformation during relative rotational movement of the container and closure. When the closure and container are screwed together, the threads are relatively axially displaced from a threadingly engaged condition to a disengaged condition which resists re-engagement.

  • Patent number: 5356017
Abstract: A child-resistant closure is provided with a base having a deck with a discharge aperture. A lid having a bottom surface for engaging the base is hingedly connected to the base. The base has a resilient locking lever that projects the base deck at a location inwardly of the periphery of the base. The lever defines a shoulder. The lid has a central cover panel defining an aperture inwardly of the periphery of the lid for receiving the lever when the lid is closed. The lid defines a latch surface adjacent the aperture for confronting the base lever shoulder when the lid is closed. The periphery of the lid defines a finger-engaging surface laterally offset relative to the lid aperture, and the finger-engaging surface extends progressively outwardly with increasing distance from the lid bottom surface. The portion of the base that extends from the hinge connection is configured to project peripherally outwardly at least as far as the lid bottom surface when the lid is closed.

  • Patent number: 5169035
Abstract: A closure is provided for use in a squeeze-type container that defines a discharge opening communicating with the container interior in which the fluid product is contained. The closure includes a body for being mounted to the container over the container opening. An insert member is mounted in the body. In one embodiment, the insert member defines a dispensing orifice through which the container contents can be dispensed, and the closure body defines a vent aperture adjacent the insert member for cooperating with the insert member to define a vent passage between the container opening and the ambient atmosphere. A resilient sealing lip is defined by the insert member for sealingly engaging the interior surface of the closure body around the vent aperture in a closed position.

  • Patent number: 5145080
Abstract: A package is provided in the form of a container and closure assembly which incorporates a system for providing a positive orientation of the container closure so as to align external features of the closure and container. The container has a neck defining an opening to the container interior, an external screw thread, and a protuberance. The protuberance has generally oppositely facing abutment surfaces and at least one cam surface extending between the abutment surfaces. The closure has a skirt defining an internal screw thread for engaging the container external screw thread. The skirt defines a recess for receiving a protuberance. The recess is defined at opposite ends by spaced-apart engaging surfaces for confronting the protuberance abutment surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5007545
Abstract: A member is provided for being mounted on the neck of a container. The member has a skirt with at least a first annular section extending axially below an annular bead on the container. A plurality of circumferentially spaced arms are flexibly connected to, and extend from, the skirt first annular section at a first bend line to accommodate radially inward pivoting of each arm to an orientation generally alongside the skirt first annular section. A plurality of circumferentially spaced tabs are each flexibly connected to, and extend radially inwardly of, one of the arms at a second bend line to accommodate radially inward pivoting of each tab toward the container when sufficient relative axial displacement is effected between the closure and the container. A novel method is provided for arranging unique mold parts for molding the mounting member and for moving the mold parts to release the molded mounting member in an assembly-ready orientation for application to the container.
