  • Patent number: 7769387
Abstract: A system and method are provided for using differentiated telephone numbers to determine whether to perform a vocoder bypass. In an exemplary embodiment, a mobile station may call a terminating node. An intermediate entity may search an identifier of the terminating node for a predetermined aspect. If the predetermined aspect is found, the terminating node may be a mobile station, and the intermediate entity may perform a vocoder bypass. If the predetermined aspect is not found, the terminating node may be a non-mobile station, and the intermediate entity may perform vocoding.

  • Patent number: 7251480
Abstract: A method and system for sending a voice message in a wireless communication network. A mobile station may encode an audio speech signal into a voice mail message and send the voice mail message through a wireless network to a voice mail server. An entity of the wireless network may first receive the message and determine if an intended recipient is another mobile station. If so, the entity may simply forward to voice mail message on to the voice mail server. If not, the entity may transcode the voice mail message into another format and then send the formatted voice mail message to the voice mail server, which stores the voice mail message for later delivery to the intended recipient.

  • Patent number: 7155226
Abstract: A method for serving multiple mobile stations under a common mobile identification number (MIN). A service provider assigns the common MIN to multiple mobile stations and maintains a subscriber profile that associates the MIN with the electronic serial numbers (ESNs) of the mobile stations. However, the service provider allows the MIN to be associated with at most one mobile station that is arranged to respond to a MIN-based termination message. As a result, when the service provider seeks to terminate a call through signaling keyed to the MIN, only one of the mobile stations will respond (e.g., begin to ring). At the same time, all of the mobile stations having the common MIN can originate calls through signaling keyed to their MIN and ESN (since the MIN/ESN pair should uniquely identify the originating station).

  • Patent number: 7092722
Abstract: A method and system for selecting a mobile station active set based, at least in part, on the geographic location of the mobile station. A base station or other entity monitors the mobile station's location. When the location changes, the base station refers to a predefined sector-coverage database to identify as the active set one or more sectors that each encompass the mobile station's location. If more than one sector encompasses the location, the base station may further select as the active set a subset of one or more sectors to which the mobile station is closest.

  • Patent number: 6865391
Abstract: A system and method are provided for using electronic serial numbers (ESNS) to determine whether to perform vocoder bypass. In an exemplary embodiment, a terminal device may share a common mobile identification number (MIN) with other terminal devices. The terminal device may answer a page and provide its ESN to an intermediate entity. The intermediate entity may query a database to determine whether the answering terminal device is a mobile station. The intermediate entity may perform vocoding if the answering terminal device is a non-mobile station, or vocoder bypass if the answering terminal device is a mobile station.
