  • Patent number: 6021771
Abstract: A cutter assembly for installation on the rotary discs of a concrete finishing/stripper machine includes a base member for mounting on the rotary disc of a machine, a cutter member carried on the base member having a plurality of interchangeable cutting edges selectively presentable to a cutting position, a guide channel for constraining the cutter element for movement relative to the base member between first and second positions, and a coil spring for urging the cutter member toward a first of the positions while permitting movement of the cutter element along a path away from the first position and toward a deflected position in response to forces applied to the cutter element caused by obstructions on the surface being finished. The compression or pre-load on the coil spring is adjustable for varying conditions. The entire cutter assembly is readily mountable onto the bottom of the rotating disc and channels thereof by wedges, making set up of the machine quick and easy.

  • Patent number: 5746193
Abstract: An assembly in the form of a press for holding a conventional hand-held portable gasoline engine powered masonry cut-off saw. The assembly includes a vertical frame secured to a pan and on which the cut-off saw is pivotally mounted. The frame is detachable for ease of transport and shipment. A gas bias spring acts to normally position the cut-off saw up and away from a movable work table positioned on the pan. A support plate affixed to a pivot shafted mounted on the frame includes means at both ends for positioning and firmly holding the saw in place during a cutting operation. The speed and on-off control of the saw is provided by a twist hand grip throttle mounted on the outer end of an operator actuated lever arm secured to the pivot shaft. The twist grip throttle is coupled by means of a cable to a trigger actuable blade speed control assembly mounted on the hand grip at the rear end of the cut-off saw.

  • Patent number: 5251367
Abstract: A pneumatically driven impact type set of tools including a plurality of interchangeable components having, in addition to a manually gripped housing, a common pneumatically driven reciprocating piston actuator assembly, an interchangeable set of tool heads having respectively different types of work tools associated therewith, a removable hand actuated pneumatic valve and one or more extension members which may be selectively coupled between the housing and pneumatic valve. One form of the pneumatic valve includes a safety feature in the handle sub-assembly for preventing inadvertent actuation of the valve upon release of the handle.

  • Patent number: 5184382
Abstract: A pneumatically driven impact type of descaler tool includes a manually gripped housing having a rear portion of generally circular cross-section which includes therein a pneumatically driven reciprocating piston assembly which acts as a hammer and a right angled forward portion having a forwardly tapered nose which is particularly adapted for fitting into corners of a workspace. A pivoted solid arcuate body shaped in the form of a quarter circle forms an anvil. A descaling head is secured to the lower end of the anvil and is adapted to be actuated at the other end by the piston assembly which imparts a srelatively strong repetitive impact motion to the descaling head when held against a metal work surface.

  • Patent number: 5172680
Abstract: A table-top masonry saw comprising a high-speed rotary circular blade is provided with a dust removal kit for withdrawing masonry dust created by the circular blade from the region of the saw to a vacuum source. The kit includes a curtain draped over a frame member at an operator's side of the saw blade and a funnel disposed to the rear of the saw blade opposite the operator's side. The funnel includes an exhaust duct which is connected to a vacuum source.

  • Patent number: 5129708
Abstract: A manually pushed stripping machine which includes a wheeled undercarriage, an upper cutter head assembly pivotally mounted at the rear of the undercarriage and a rearwardly extending handle secured to the upper assembly. The undercarriage additionally includes a manually adjustable bolt located at the front for selectively varying the height of a pair of cutter heads having a plurality of cutting fingers attached thereto. Additionally, a cutter head angle adjustment fixture is located on the rear portion of the undercarriage. A handle latch member having a forward end pivotally connected to the undercarriage includes an angulated slot which engages and outwardly projecting bolt located on the upper assembly so that when the handle is lowered to a horizontal position, the bolt engages and locks the rear portion of the angulated slot to prevent a further pivoting of the upper assembly on the undercarriage.

  • Patent number: 4953523
Abstract: A quick release mechanism for disengaging the cutting blade of a masonry saw is disclosed. Rotation of a threaded shaft to achieve axial movement through a closed partially threaded split collar lowers the cutting tool onto the work surface via a counterpivot mechanism which simultaneously compresses a gas spring. Only one half of the collar has threads complementary to those of the threaded shaft and pivots away from an opposing fixed unthreaded collar portion. Upon actuation of a release device, the threaded portion of the split collar pivots to an open position to disengage the threaded shaft whereby reverse axial movement of the threaded shaft and resultant upward disengagement of the cutting tool occur as the gas spring decompresses.

  • Patent number: 4758050
Abstract: There is disclosed herein a machine for removing coatings from uneven surfaces such as concrete and the like. The machine includes a power system for driving a pair of cutter head assemblies. The cutter head assemblies are rotated in opposite directions to help stabilize the machine and to throw the cuttings out of the way. Each cutter head assembly has a cutter head with a plurality of peripheral sides or facets and cutter bars are spring loaded thereon to allow cutting tools held by the cutter bars to effectively float on the concrete surface and follow uneven sections of the surface. The cutter head assemblies are mounted on the machine so that they can tilt forward and backward and from side to side to facilitate the cutter head assemblies following uneven surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4714294
Abstract: A cutter subassembly for a concrete planing machine which is comprised of an elongated acrylic plastic tube on which is manually assembled a set of circular multitoothed cutting elements and annular spacers arranged in a predetermined order to provide a desired cutting configuration along a linear axis. The cutting elements and spacers are assembled in a jig which additionally permits the attachment of a retaining clip at each end for holding the cutting elements and spacers in a fixed position on the tube. A plurality of completed cutter subassemblies are mounted on the cutter shafts of a drum assembly of the planing machine. Upon rotation of the drum assembly, the acrylic tube of each cutter subassembly disintegrates, providing the needed relative radial movement or play between the cutting elements and the cutter shaft during a planing operation.
