  • Patent number: 4297658
Abstract: A 3dB waveguide directional coupler for coupling two rectangular waveguides of the same dimensions and having parallel longitudinal axes is disclosed. The waveguides to be coupled are joined so that one of the wider side walls of the first waveguide adjoins one of the wider side walls of the second waveguide. The interiors of the two waveguides communicate via an aperture in the adjoining side walls. When energy is input from one end of the first waveguide toward the aperture, virtually all of it is transmitted to the second wave guide, part of the transmitted energy traveling away from the aperture in each direction along the longitudinal axis of the second waveguide. This is preferably achieved by providing a waveguide system in the aperture oriented perpendicular to the longitudinal axes of the first and second waveguides.

  • Patent number: 4278956
Abstract: The disclosure concerns an HF attenuator for a hollow waveguide or a coaxial conductor. A rod of dissipative ceramic material is disposed along the length of the attenuator, so that moving along the length of the attenuator, the ceramic material increasingly defines or replaces at least one wall of the hollow waveguide or at least one of the two opposite sides of the coaxial conductor. A coolant passage may be provided along the rods of ceramic material. The ceramic material may take other forms, such as leaves and annular rings. In another embodiment for use in a waveguide, at least one wall of the longitudinal opening through the waveguide is defined by ceramic leaves, whose extent of projection into the opening is varied for HF attenuation.

  • Patent number: 4268804
Abstract: Transmission line apparatus for transmitting TE dominant electromagnetic waves is provided in accordance with the teachings of the present invention. The transmission line apparatus according to the present invention relies upon a transmission waveguide having a uniform cross-section which is substantially larger in dimension than that required for propagation of only the TE dominant electromagnetic wave desired to be transmitted. The transmission waveguide is in fact so large with respect to the transmission frequency for the TE dominant electromagnetic wave selected that a plurality of waves can form and be propagated, however, losses along the waveguide are markedly reduced. The transmission waveguide is provided with guides in the form of structure present in the waveguide which prevents a rotation of the plane of polarization of the TE dominant electromagnetic waves being transmitted.

  • Patent number: 4107631
Abstract: Method and circuit arrangement for protecting coaxial cable in transmission equipment: at the input and at the output of the cable, a proportional fraction of the high frequency energy is coupled out; the coupled out high frequency energies are compared and there is disconnection when the comparison shows a particular value.
