Abstract: A fluid-pressurized face seal device is provided for use in sealing a rotatable shaft in heavy duty equipment. At least an end portion of the shaft is surrounded by a housing to which said seal device is attached. The seal comprises a cylindrical annular seal carrier surrounding the shaft and mounted to the housing, the housing defining a space adjacent the shaft containing fluid under pressure. The seal carrier has an annular chamber characterized by spaced walls for receiving and supporting annular seal elements therein, the seal carrier containing a first fluidly expandible annular seal element located within the chamber in sealing engagement with the spaced walls.
